Swansea Foodbank
For the year ended 31st May 2025
Annual Rem: Swansea Foodbank
l. Introdurtlon and O¥er¥lew
This report covers the 3rtivitie5 and developments of Swansea Foodbank forthe financial year ended
31st May 2025. It is submitted to external stakeholders to provide an oveNiew of our work, governance, and
financial position.
2. Governance and Structure
The board of trustees oversees the governance and strategit direction of the charty. A review of all policies and
processes, including safeguarding. data protection, and confidentiality. was completed and policies were
distributed to all seven Foodbank centres. A trustee. Chris Davies, has been appointed to be responsible for data
protection. A new Trustees, Policy Document was adopted. which includes a tode of condurt for the induction
of new trustees. Peter Hurst has taken over the treasurer role from Chris Davies.
3. Charltable Actlvities and Achievements
Benefits Advice and Finanual Inclusion:
The benefits advice team works wf(h foodbank clients to prevent them from needing to use the foodbank in the
future. The team's work is collaborative an(i supportive. The team secured a total of £663,698 in financial
gains for clients during the year. The team has not lost a single court case, and they are the only charitable
benefits advisor to help clients throughout the entire process, including Court appearances. The charity is also
seeking a replacement Financial Inclusion case 5UPPOrt worker.
Partnershlps and Advocacy:
Swansea Foodbank work5 to build connections within the city to end the need for foodbanks. The CEO attends
the bi-monthly Swansea Food Poverty Forum. which has been a source of information on funding opportunfcies.
such as the Period Digntty Fund and the Household Support Fund. The CEO also links with Trussell Trust and other
Welsh foodbanks and represented Swansea Foodbank on the Swansea Poverty Truth Commission. The
commission identified key areas of work. including breaking the cycle of poor mental health and poverty and
reducing the stigma and assumptions about p)verty.
Operatlonal Developments
The charity grateful￿ acknowledges the generosity of RNerside Christian Fellowship for the use of Siloam for
many years. The warehousing provided at Siloam (Foodbank Warehouse Facility) will no longer be required. as
in future, each centre will store rfcs own food locally. thereby eliminatingthe need for a central distribution point.
6. Our Volunteers
The Trustees wish to place on record their sincere gratitude lor the huge contribution of time donated freely and
willingly by our over 150 volunteers across all of the Swansea Foodbank centres. Our volunteers are the lifeblood
of our organisation. Their contributions are eqLENalent to having six full-time staff members. At the minimum
wage of £12.21 for a 35-hour work week, this would be equivalent to £133.CW)O in salarie5. In recognition of time
spent volunteerin8, the Charity is participating in the Tempo Time Credits scheme, which allows volunteers to
exchange credits for artivities and days OLrt. A (le-e5calation course was scheduled to help volunteers handle
situations involving clients with anxiety and, at times. abusNe behaviours.

Peter Hurst has taken over the treasurer role from Chri5 Davies. The budgeting principle for all centres will be
based on the number of vouchers each centre fulfils. The trustees have set aside designated fundlng for staffing
in a reserved fund. The charity is also exploring alternatNe accounts to obtain higher interest rates and will move
£85,000 into a one-year bond with CAF Ishawbrook bankl and £20,000 into an instant access account. The
Trustees would like to place on record their sincere gratitude for all the donations receNed during the year, which
are listed in the attached list of donor5.
6. Fundralslng
The fundraiser. Peter Hurst, has raised £78,303 restricted and unrestricted funds, which includes money for food.
toiletries, and fresh fruit and vegetables. The fundraiser has also negotiated with student providers to send surplus

services to our Food Bank Centres. The dedication and tommitment of these partners are vital ingredient5 in
developing a collaborative ecosystem of wraparovnd care and support for our clients. We are especially

Independent Examlner's Report to the Trustees of
Swansea Foodbank
I report on the accounts for the year ended 31st May 2025 set out on page5 6 to 7.
Respertl¥e responsibilities of the trustees and examiner
The Charity'5 trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's trustees consider
that an audit is not required for this year under Section 144 of the Charities Art 2011 (the Chartties Act) and
that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act.
to follow the protedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission
(under sertion 1451511bl of the Charities Art. and
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the independent ex?miner's rewt
My examination was carried out in accordance with general DIrett￿n5 given by the Charity Commission.
An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the
accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of ?ny unusual items or disclosures in
the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures
undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in On audit. and consequently no
opinion is given as to whether the aecounts present a 'true and fair, view and the report is limfced to those
matters set out in the statement below.
In tonnertion with my examination, no matter has come to my attention".
I which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect. the requirements:
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charitie5 Act,. and
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the
accounting requirements of the Charities Act
hive not been met- or
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of
the accounts to be ￿3¢he￿.
