## **Sunshine with Smiles Trust Charity**
Sunshine with Smiles Trust Charity was set up by DR Steven Bick and formally commenced its work as a registered charity on the 1[st] January 2023. It is dedicated to supporting children and adults in The Gambia through education, healthcare and sports.

## **Summary of SWST’s activities in 2025**
## **Fund raising Activities**
To help fund our projects for 2025, we increased our fund raising activities. These included:
- On-line fund raising including a GoFundMe page
- The creation of a YouTube Channel to help promote both the work we wanted to undertake as well as the results of that activity
- Afternoon Cream Tea Event
- Presentations to local Rotary Clubs to raise awareness and funds
- Presentation to a local Primary School get local children and parents involved in improving two schools in The Gambia
## **Activities and Projects Completed**
- Campama Lower Basic School Refurbishment
- A group of 11 people from our Charity, friends, family and local Rotary members went to The Gambia for 10 days. Whilst there we
- refurbished 2 primary classes including decorating the walls, repairing the floors, getting lights and fans installed and provided early learning materials for the teachers and children
- repaired and decorated 2 toilet blocks
- refurbished the teachers’ toilets
- built a retaining wall to stop the classrooms flooding in the rainy season
- refurbished the school library
- Repaired a classroom floor so it could be used again
- Some members of this group also took time to visit the following projects:
- Gambian Cricket Association. Donated cricket equipment
- Gunjur Youth Project. Paid for and helped plant palm trees on the beach to help stop soil erosion
- Precious Plastics. Visited a group who are trying to raise awareness regarding plastic recycling as well as use machines to manufacture furniture, chairs, tables etc. from recycled plastic
- Edward Francis Teaching Hospital. Gave a presentation to local government officials and Uk Embassy staff to formally hand over the Mammogram machine sent over the p[previous year
- Art Supplies to local artist. Donate paint, brushes and other art related goods to local artists who are trying to run their own businesses but struggle to get the materials and supplies they need.
- Pad’s Project. Through our contacts with Bournemouth Rotary Club and The Rotary Club of Banjul, we were able to help get funds to The Gambia to provide sanitary products to girls at school.
## **Summary of Account Activity**
- **Income** . For the financial year we received £29354 from a combination of donations, fundraising activities and travel payments from the 11 volunteers who went in March for the 10 day working trip
- **Expenditure** . For the financial year our total expenditure was £25854. This covered money sent and spent in The Gambia for projects; money spent in the UK for materials we either took or sent to The Gambia and costs to The Gambia Experience Travel Agent for the 11 volunteer group travel costs.

## **Notes**
In order to get the best discount on the travel costs for the 11 volunteers, the money from each person was paid into the charity account. This was then used to make the booking payment to The Gambian Experience Travel Agent. The payment also covered incidental travel costs such as taxis, tips etc. The total cost for each volunteer was less than the payments made on their behalf, with the balance remaining in the charity account as a donation.
