## **Sunshine with Smiles Trust Charity** 

Sunshine with Smiles Trust Charity was set up by DR Steven Bick and formally commenced it’s work as a registered charity on the 1[st] January 2023. It is dedicated to supporting children in The Gambia through education, healthcare and sports.

## **Summary of SWST’s activities in 2024** 

- Mammogram Project 

   - Provided technical help and support to get the mammogram machine, previously delivered to Banjul Hospital up and running. This included help significant software update and the timely assistance of the British High Commissioner in Banjul to get some missing parts delivered to the hospital. The machine is now up and running! 

- Group visit February 2024. 6 self-funding volunteers visited The Gambia. During their visit they: 

   - Visited Campama Lower Basic School and delivered school supplies and paid for extra food for the children at lunch time 

   - Provided sporting equipment to the Gambian Cricket Association, presented the coach Prince with a long service award and attended an evening BBQ event 

   - Delivered Art Supplies to a local Artist to help with his business. In return we have been allowed to have his pictures photographed, printed and sold in the UK for fund raising 

   - Met with the head of Gunjur Youth and provided input to his Ethical Youth Program. We plan to follow up on this in 2025 

   - Visited Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital to assess their needs for future projects and support 

   - Travelled to Sankandi village to view the work we had sponsored to build a school extension including 3 classrooms for 100 children. The follow-up need was seen as a bore hole for fresh water, school kitchen and toilets and a perimeter wall for the safety of the children 

- Rotary Club work. During the second half of the year Dr Bick worked on establishing a working relationship with local Rotary Clubs to raise awareness and funds. 



- Visited Wessex Rotary Conference, presented the aims of our charity and raised funds through the sale of Gambian products and artwork. 

## **Summary of Account Activity** 

**Income** . For the financial year we raised £3391 from a combination of donations and fund-raising activities 

**Expenditure** . For the financial year we sent £2400 to The Gambia to pay for projects we were supporting in this year
