The year in summary – chairman’s report
Welcome to everyone - thanks for attending our first Friends AGM.
From our last church building Quinquennial inspection there were several urgent jobs needed to be done such as gutters and downpipes. General repairs are, of course, not cheap.
In an attempt to help with the maintenance of St Mary’s church building and churchyard about 18 months ago a small group of us decided to try and set up a ‘Friends’ charity modelled on other Friends groups in the area like Otham and Hollingbourne. We printed a couple of thousand leaflets inviting people to become Friends and either make a commitment to donate financially or time wise to do jobs around the church. These were delivered to every household in Langley and from that we received commitments from 15 people and were able to apply to the Charities commission for charitable status which was granted in March 2023.
This is, as I’ve already said, our first AGM and during this first year we’ve run 2 fundraising events, an Organ concert and a murder mystery event. We have 2 other events planned for this year which we will cover as another agenda item.
Thank you once again for attending tonight - please do tell your neighbours and friends about the Friends and our events.
