|During 2021, Ely Cathedral Trust (which is consolidated into these financial statements) took advantage of section 4 of the T
rus
ts Act
2013 to adopt a total return approach to the permanent endowment of the 21st Century Fund. The Trustees met and unanimously
agreed this on 29 April 2021 as being in the charity's interest. Due to the number of professionally qualified accountants an
d l
awyers
within the group, Trustees were comfortable that as a body they had the experience and the expertise to take the decision on
the
basis
of information and advice received without the need for formal external professional advice. This approach has been limited
to
this one
fund and will not apply to any other endowment funds held by the charity. The assets held that represent the value of the or
igi
nal
endowment have been established including any additional amounts that were not the result of the investment. There is no exi
sti
ng
Charity Commission Order on this fund.
The Trustees decided to adopt the total return basis in order to assist the Cathedral with expenditure on Cathedral fabric.
The
Trustees
feel that this expenditure is within the spirit of the original 21st Century Fund.||
