Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy CIO (Foundation) Charity number 1202502
Annual Report 2023
Trustees: Edward Bates Chair Savannah Lee Trustee Sabiha Nazir Trustee Paula Pestell Trustee
The charity was registered on 27th March 2023. Our charitable objective is for the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, in particular by the provision of facilities for playing and taking part in martial arts. To advance the education of the public in martial arts by the provision of training, examination and awards.
The aims and activities of the charity remain that we offer training in several martial arts to students whilst maintaining our ethos of responsibility, personal confidence and community spirit.
The reason behind setting up a CIO (Foundation) was to enable Wythenshawe Black Belt Academy to become a legal entity in order to secure new premises. WBBA trust (registered charity 1148946) has continued with the day to day running of activities in line with both charities aims and we requested permission from the Charities Commission for winding down and a transfer of assets to the CIO..
Organisationally, we are set up as a simple structure of four Trustees, six regular volunteers who helped with membership and subscription administration along with day-to-day facilities management and thirteen volunteers who assisted in training and instruction of classes.
The charity continued to meet requested rent and utilities obligations throughout 2022. We have had limited success in funding applications. The charity has been able to absorb many of the increased costs e.g. energy price increases and inflation.
Progress has been made in looking for a more permanent home for the club. 2023 saw negotiations with Manchester City Council and Savills to facilitate a move in 2023 to Wythenshawe Civic Centre, which allowed us to stay within the heart of Wythenshawe and minimise any disruption to our participants. We spent the summer of 2023 renovating our new premises to create a fit for purpose dojo and administrative spaces. We moved to the new location and opened to the public in October 2023.
Due to administrative issues opening a new bank account for the CIO, there were no income or expenditure transactions through the CIO accounts for 2023.
On 27/06/2024 we received permission from the Charities Commission for the WBBA Trust (1148946) to be wound down and all assets to be transferred to this charity. The Trustees aim to complete this process by 31/12/2024
