## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR PERIOD 27 MARCH TO 31 DECEMBER 2023** 

1. The band was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on 27 March 2023. 

2. Its communications address is 12 Montagu Drive, Leeds LS8 2PD.  Trustees are chosen from band members aged 16 or more. The present trustees are 

William MacDonald Mhairi Sellar Ian Turner George Harrison 

3. At a meeting of the trustees on 27 April, day-to-day management of the band was delegated to a committee comprising band office holders (pipe major, lead drummer, chair, treasurer, secretary), and pipe and drum corps representatives.  All of the trustees are members of the committee in one capacity or another.  Explicit written terms governing the delegation of authority were made at the same time, concerning, in particular, procedures for the appointment/election of committee members and adherence to the band’s code of conduct. 

4. Having had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, the activities of the band in the period were focussed on maintaining its objectives of promoting and encouraging the playing of pipes and drums, providing free tuition, and performing at local community events.  To these ends members of the  band interacted with the public at events, maintained its social media platforms, continued its Monday evening sessions for learners and general skills development in addition to Thursday evening band practices, and contributed to the success of local community events throughout the period, having received invitations to perform at 20 such events - in evidence of the value attached to our participation. 

5. All income for the period was generated from participation at events, contributing to a healthy bank balance at year end, in excess of the reserve policy amount of £4,000. The reserve is primarily for the purpose of sustaining practice etc activities for a period of 2 years should the capacity to earn income be restricted or non-existent for such a period for whatever reason (e.g., pandemic lockdown).
