Trustees’ Annual Report
1. AGM
An AGM was held in October 2025. This report has been examined by the responsible person and trustees and is assured as an accurate record of the Charity’s position at the year end. The next Trustees meeting is set for 28[th] February 2026 to budget for the forthcoming year.
2. The Trustees
There are now 7 trustees who all uphold the Charity’s values and commitments and decision making. Alex Deas has left his Trusteeship.
3. Funding
The CIO was lucky to gain funding (234.39) from Community Action Group, Devon, which will help with the advertising needed to advertise change in days of opening, and our monthly Saturday opening now at the Chuley Road site; when we open the new extension (CRW2). The project is a little behind schedule due to weather and is now due to be open to be equipped by March 2026.
4. Activities
The Ashburton Café was set up in 2018 and has been a successful venture repairing broken items (electricals, furniture, fabrics, clocks, radios etc.) and returning them in a usable state thereby reducing domestic items going to landfill. In March 2023 the Charity was formed and new premises became available to increase the amount of repairs that could be offered to the public. There were costs to this very basic premises for which grants became available. Activities increased again in 2025 and an increase in donations enable the charity to absorb the costs of equipping the new extension (CRW2) and an increase in rent. This increase in rent will be offset mostly by holding the monthly sessions within the workshop rather than renting another premises.
The CIO collaborated with the local Primary School again and held 4 sessions teaching pupils a variety of repairing skills. The CIO also collaborated with U3A and offered a repair workshop. Over the last couple of years some repairers have been teaching their offspring much needed repair skills, one of whom is doing her Duke of Edinburgh Awards volunteering at the Repair Café. It is hoped that more community collaboration will help us fulfil our aim of upskilling the community. Once the new extension is complete there will be a more quiet and clean area to hold more workshops.
5. Summary.
The Ashburton Repair Café Charity has had a very successful year and is in a sound position with good governance and appropriate policies in place to support its activities. The CIO is well able to meet its obligations and it is anticipated that the CIO’s increased repairing activities and new extension will provide a good flow of income in the forthcoming year.
