Public Benefit
Stockton Lane Pre-School was established in 1964 and caters for children aged between 2 and 5 years old. It was established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2024 (Registered Charity #1202464) with the purpose of securing the viability and future success of the Pre-School, with the children being the main focus. As such, all financial surpluses generated by the Pre-School are reinvested entirely to support its operations, enhance resources, and drive continuous success.
Stockton Lane Pre-School is committed to advancing the education and development of young children by offering highquality early years education, care, and learning opportunities for children within York and the surrounding areas. The PreSchool aims to deliver this by:
promoting the care and safety of the children;
- promoting the children’s education and parental involvement; promoting the health and wellbeing of the children; providing services to support the children, their families and carers; and furthering the aims of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
Activities and Impact
The Pre-School provides a safe and secure environment, a large hall and a large outdoor play area. Sessions take place in the hall, the size of which allows the dedicated team of staff to set-up multiple different activities for the children to explore at their own pace.
As well as a daily fun and educational range of activities (play, singing, dance, crafts, drawing, painting, outdoor play etc.), examples of themed activities throughout the year have included the annual Christmas Fair, Summer Fair and Easter Egg Hunt. Activities and learning are often themed around the time of year, i.e. Easter, Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas etc., helping children to gain a better understanding of these occasions. Other events throughout the year have included:
-
a trip to a local residential care home, giving the children an opportunity to interact through song and play with the older people;
-
marking anti-bullying week with an odd socks day; a bear hunt; and
-
encouraging children to take part in the 25 challenge (25 bounces on the trampoline) for Children in Need.
Upcoming events for the festive season, as well as the Christmas Fair on 6 December include a Christmas Sing Along, Christmas Party for the children and a Christmas Jumper Day. Local businesses were contacted to ask for donations for raffle prizes at the Christmas Fair with vouchers, hampers and tickets to events/entry already received.
Due Regard to Guidance
In carrying out our activities, the trustees have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance. Decisions on fee structure, concession places, and outreach activities were made with regard to balancing accessibility with the financial viability of the Pre-School.
Future Plans
Following its first full year as a CIO, the Pre-School is looking to build on what has already been achieved and attract more children to join as they turn two and encourage parents to join the Board of Trustees to assist in the management of the Pre-School. Staff are continuously thinking of new ways to ensure the children are given the best educational and developmental opportunities possible, and new fundraising ideas are already being discussed by the Trustees for next year. It is hoped that the Pre-School will be able to further develop positive relationships with other local organisations and businesses to facilitate future fundraising, as well as enhance its visibility and reputation in the local community.
