## SHOEBOX THEATRE cio: TRUSTEES REPORT

## presented by Chairman Adam Cukrowski at the AGM 24[th] June 2025

Shoebox Theatre c.i.o. continues to fulfil its charitable aims in two regular areas of practice: the Drama group & the Play-reading group. These have both brought together people of all ages and abilities to be creative: the Drama group by producing their own scripts and sharing them in performance with family & friends and the wider local public; the Play-reading group in regular readings of published plays by classical and modern authors. With new publicity material, Shoebox has expanded the age range of the Drama group and the members are currently rehearsing their devised interactive entertainment _The Boat Trip_ for pre-school and infant groups.

With the support of Support Staffordshire cic, we were successful in a funding bid and received a core grant via Tamworth B.C. for three months, which allowed us to purchase high quality publicity material, and to engage another facilitator. The charity also participated in several publicity events set up by CommunityTogether cic, and others by Support Staffordshire cic, across the Borough, which allowed us to explain our activities and reach potential participants in different areas of Tamworth.

This year we have also expanded the charity's association with local Arts group New Urban Era with our devised mummers play St George & Slasher, performed with a mixed cast of professional and Drama group actors for the well-attended, New Urban Era's (Arts Council supported) _Arts of Tamworth_ event.

Over this year, one of our Shoebox team has been a participant observer in another actor- led group for a wide range of abilities. This culminated in a performance for the group's friends and families. This performance was also shared online with several Mental Health professionals.

A Shoebox actor-Trustee has also been in online conversation with several neurodiverse adults, at the invitation of an officer of Burton and District Mind, asking what services would be helpful to them. This has led to further co-operation with MIND exploring the possibility of a joint supported project for neurodivergent participants to express themselves through drama. A funding application has been submitted by the Mind officer for this proposed project with the title _Face the World_ and is now waiting for the result.

As an end note, we are here for our AGM, followed by afternoon tea and open mike entertainment.

Adam Cukrowski.
