TJB Chair’s Report 2026
By general consensus I feel this has been another successful year for the club with some great new bands coming in and several returners. We’ve been lucky enough to attract some award winning artists both to the club and to the Pavilions. This has meant quite a few sold out audiences over the year.
I’d like to add here that the sound in the club has been top notch and I’d like to thank Robin and Luke for their efforts and expertise. In fact Alice Armstrong (an award winner this week in the British Blues awards) used 2 of the songs recorded in our club on her latest CD.
The bands very much appreciate that and if you want further proof I recommend you visit Teign Gig Clips on YouTube where you can see the videos produced by our friend Dean sitting by the bar behind his camera. I note that one video of the Connolly Hayes band has had 11000 hits. Thank you, Dean.
With financial backing from the town council we put on a Blues Day in the rugby club last August which was a success musically though attendance wasn’t as good as we had hoped. We’re now discussing a possible festival for the future but questions about suitable venues and timing need to be worked out.
Unfortunately we’ve been dogged by 3 cancellations this year - a rare occurrence, but it has meant we’ve been able to bring in last minute substitutes which have proved very popular. We’re very lucky to have a pool of top class artists to draw on.
I’d like to point out that Jim Stevens, our friendly hairdresser, has been advised to take things easy so after, I believe , some 38 years of stirling service he will no longer be attending our gigs but is still happy to sell tickets and advertise events from his shop. We will miss him running the raffle, I’m sure.
I also want to state that Pauline Dean has resigned as our treasurer. She also did a fabulous job over the 3/4 years when in office. Bands always commented on prompt payments. Fortunately we have a new treasurer, David Suchodola, who is attempting to come to terms with the tricky process of making membership payments a lot more straightforward. I wish him all the best.
We have several new members joining the team though it has skewed the balance back to all male so if any ladies would be happy to participate
then I’m sure they’d be very welcome. In fact anyone willing to join us would be welcome.
Finally, I need to give notice that, due to ill health, I shall be stepping down from chair of the club after the AGM, but I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us over the year, especially the team and all those who have attended our gigs on a regular basis.
