● Strategic priority - Building Water Wells in Rural Communities in Niger Republic
Imagine a future where every rural community in Niger has access to safe, clean water. A future where women and children are no longer burdened with the task of fetching water from distant sources, freeing up their time for education, work, and leisure. Imagine schools with reliable water supply, enabling students to attend regularly and improve their learning outcomes.
Our vision is to create this future by building water wells in rural communities throughout Niger. These wells will provide a sustainable source of clean water for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and irrigation purposes. They will also contribute to improving the health and well-being of rural populations, reducing the burden of water-borne diseases, and promoting economic development.
We believe that access to safe water is a fundamental human right. We are committed to working with local communities, governments, and other stakeholders to make this vision a reality. Together, we can create a future where every child and youth in rural Niger has access to the water they need to thrive.
Objectives:
-
To provide access to safe, clean water for drinking, cooking, and sanitation purposes, improving the health and well-being of rural communities.
-
To alleviate the burden of water collection, particularly for women and children, who often spend hours each day fetching water from distant sources.
-
To promote education by providing a reliable water source for schools, enabling students to attend school regularly and improve their learning outcomes.
In Conclusion:
The GMLB Foundation is dedicated to uplifting rural communities in the Niger Republic by providing sustainable financial support and fostering opportunities for economic growth. We strive to empower individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency and a higher quality of life through targeted initiatives and collaborative partnerships.
Our vision is to create a future where all rural communities in Niger have equitable access to quality education and the resources needed to thrive. We envision a society where individuals are empowered to reach their full potential, contribute to their communities, and build a brighter future for themselves and generations to come.
To achieve this vision, we are committed to:
-
Educational Equity: Expanding access to education for all children, regardless of
-
gender, socioeconomic status, or geographic location.
-
Quality Learning: Promoting innovative teaching methods, relevant curriculum, and a supportive learning environment that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning skills.

We believe that through sustainable development, empowerment, and collaboration, we can build a more just and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Impact and Accomplishments
This year, the GLMB Foundation has made significant strides in fulfilling its mission. We have raised through organic donations more than £21,542.32 and we used most of these donations to deliver against GMLB Foundation key strategic priorities. Some of our key accomplishments include:
- Education : We provided scholarships to 3 deserving students, enabling them to pursue higher education. Additionally we provided financial support to renovate a derelict school without any benches and roof. This situation has led to children attending school by sitting on the floor and also in a roasting heat. The region of Zinder regularly has a solar heat of over 45 degrees celsius throughout the day. The funding provided by GMLB Foundation has helped renovate a classroom with new benches and a fully fitted roof so children can attend school with minimal living conditions. Also we organized a trip to Niger Republic for UK Year 11 students to travel to Niger Republic to teach english to a girls only school. It was an amazing experience for our volunteers and also a great opportunity for Niger young girls to learn English as a second language. This was the first a UK school has sent volunteers to the Niger republic and we are exploring ways to make this initiative permanent.

-
Healthcare : We provided funding to the building of a local clinic for children where low income families; single mothers and orphans can get access to healthcare services at low cost. We have also partnered with local clinics to offer free health screening to underserved communities across Niger Republic.
-
Health Education - Awareness on child Marriages : We collaborated and financed some sensibilisation campaigns with ONG Berandi in Niger to raise awareness on child marriages in schools; rural communities in working partnership with religious leaders. NGO Berandi i s a women-led organization based in Niamey, Niger. It was founded in 2014 to promote women and girl’s empowerment through several development activities as well as their participation in cultural and artistic fields. They work to end child marriage by running sensitisation campaigns in schools.
-
Support to Rural Communities : We have supported various rural communities through food donations and financial support to women and single mothers to become more financially independent. For example we helped Hassana, a mother of four responsible for the upbringing of her children. She has no formal education and she is unemployed; we provide training and financial support in buying a refrigerator so that she can sell cold water or ice as refreshment. These economical activities enabled Hassana to feed her children and she was no longer forced into mendicity. In addition we have 2 built water wells in Zinder region rural communities to provide access to clean water for drinking, cooking, sanitation, and irrigation purposes. This has also contributed to improving the health and well-being of rural populations, reducing the burden of water-borne diseases.
These are just a few examples of the many ways in which we have made a positive impact this year.

Water Well project for rural communities:
We have worked with rural leaders in the regions of Zinder to build a water well for the communities to give them access to clean drinking water; reduced the daily journey for children and women who have to travel over 10 miles on foot a day to collect water and carry it on their heads then back to their villages. This has a negative impact on the education of children in the communities and increases the hardship in women's daily lives. Water wells play a crucial role in improving the lives of people in rural communities. They provide access to clean water, improve public health, stimulate economic development, empower women, and promote environmental sustainability. Investing in water wells is an investment in the future of rural communities.
