PROTECTED PAWS ANIMAL RESCUE REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES ST FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023 The Trustees present their report with the financial statements for the period 17 March 2023 to 31" December 2023. PRINCIPAL ACTIVITY The principal activity of the Charity for the period ended 31" December 2023 is the rescue, care, rehabilitation and rehoming of sick, abandoned or unwanted animals. REVIEW OF THE BUSINESS Protected Paws Animal Rescue obtained Charitable status on 17 March 2023. The financial statements covers the period from becoming a registered charity on 17 March 2023 until 31 December 2023. Since commencement until 31" December 2023, the Charity has rescued over 700 animals predominately cats, with foxes, dogs, pigeons, ferrets, geese and squirrels on an adhoc basis. The Charity operates purely on a voluntary basis and there are no paid employees or staff. It has 2 main sources of income, adoption fees and donations. The Charity relies on a network of foster homes whilst the animals are under the Charities care. The Charity did not own or lease any property during the period ended 31 December 2023. The majority of the expenses incurred relate to medicallveterinary costs for sick or injured animals and maintenance costs for the animals in foster care as well as vaccinations, micro chipping, flea/worminE treatments and spraying prior to rehoming for all animals in our care. Transportation costs are mainly for Ubers that are taken to rescue abandoned/sick animals and then to the Charity or Veterinary Practices where they can get immediate care. Whilst all efforts are taken to request asslstance from volunteers for tran5POrtation, frequently Ubers are required as the Charity has no other means of getting to the animal quickly and transporting them. The Charity also provides transportation to Vets that offer their time to the Charity on the weekends on a pro-bono basis, giving their time and experience to operate on the animals. Occasionally, the Charity will order food during these days and these are either included in Transportation or Subsistence costs in the financial statements. The Charity currently has surplus funds, however, we anticipate our veterinary costs to increase in 2024 as the Charity has a non-euthanasian policy unless recommended by the presiding vet/specialist. Accounting convention
The financial statements have been prepared under the receipts and payments basis. All expenditure is paid immediately when incurred, except for vet costs which are paid monthly.
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees are charged in accordance with the published rates on the adoption application forms and recognised on a cash basis. Where possible, adopters are encouraged to pay the adoption fee prior to collection.
Donations
Donations include Gift Aid received during the year of £4,320. Just Giving is the platform used for claiming gift aid and receives the majority of donations. Other donations are received directly into the bank account, via Paypal, or via the Charitable Aid Foundation.
Included in donations are the bank balance of £1,198 and Paypal balance of £11 as at 16[th] March 2023, as these represented net donations after costs prior to the rescue receiving charitable status on 17[th] March 2023.
