District 1110
ROTARY ON THE WIGHT CIO District 1110 Group 8
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland
TRUSTEES MEETING HELD ON 15.04.25
Present: David Langdon (Immediate Past President 2023-24) Beryl Ely (Secretary) Geoff Pike (Treasurer 2023-24) Ian Pratt (President 2022-23)
Accounts
-
The Accounts for the Rotary on the Wight year 2023-24 have been agreed and independently verified. They were circulated to members before the business meeting on 18.2.25 for adoption by the members. The Trustees were satisfied that they were accurate and thanked Mike Coeshott and Mike Jukes for their hard work.
-
The trustees will ensure that the annual returns to the Charity Commission will be submitted on time. It was noted that the Charity Commission return for the first year of the newly formed Rotary on the Wight club (1.7.23 – 30.6.24) will have to be submitted by 30.6.2025.
-
It was reported that, although we had applied to Barclays Bank in March 2023 to open a charity account for the newly formed Rotary on the Wight CIO, it was delayed due to multiple queries from the bank. Meanwhile we had continued to use the existing Ryde Rotary Trust account as our charity account. The new account was finally available to us in December 2023 and an amount of £5707.65 was transferred from the Ryde Rotary Trust account on 18.1.24. A small balance of £100 was left in the Ryde Rotary account until it was clear whether we could make a claim to HMRC for GASDS relief. An annual return to the Charities Commission will need to be made for Ryde Rotary for 2023-24, in addition to the one for Rotary on the Wight.
-
It was agreed that David Langdon and Geoff Pike would stand down as Trustees, and that Treasurer Elect Clive Adkins would replace them. In order to maintain our free banking with Barclays, we should have no more than 3 trustees.
Fundraising Activities
The trustees noted that Rotary on the Wight has 26 members who had managed to raise a good amount for charitable giving through their fundraising efforts, in particular Party on the Green in August 2024 and the Welsh Male Voice Choir Concert in September. We had managed to allocate a significant amount to local good causes, as well as to some of the international projects supported by Rotary International.
Financial Position
-
The trustees are satisfied that the Charity account was managed appropriately during the year 2023-24 and that the donations given out were awarded to suitable recipients.
-
At 1[st ] April 2025 the trustees were satisfied that we had enough funds in the Charity account to give donations to the local causes we wished to support at Christmas, with some to spare for donations during the remainder of the year to 30[th] June 2025.
