Another objective of The BFF which is non-financial is to raise awareness of the problem of homelessness and how this community can be supported. In furtherance of these objectives, the charity has undertaken the many activities during the year, as detailed in the section below. ## **Achievements and Performance** Fundraising Activities 2023/24 - Oakley Manor Garden Open Day • Nick Barran sponsored walk to Yorkshire - • Royal Parks Half Marathon • Yoga/Dinner - Basils Birthday Quiz Night • Freddie Garland Brighton Marathon - Christmas Carols Oakley Manor Our biggest achievement apart from the monies raised, is partnering officially with a charity called Under One Sky. This has allowed us to be part of a well-established movement and collection of experts on homelessness. ## **Financial Review** The financial statements have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis. I report in respect of my examination of the Charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records. ACCOUNTING POLICIES** ## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** The financial statements have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity Commission's guidance for charities with income under £250,000. Under this basis: - Receipts are recorded when received in the charity's bank account or in cash. - Payments are recorded when they leave the charity's bank account or are paid in cash. - No accruals are made for income or expenditure relating to other periods. - The financial statements include a statement of assets and liabilities at the end of the financial year, which is - - not a balance sheet but provides additional information for users. This basis is considered appropriate for the charity given its size and the simplicity of its financial transactions. ## **Income** Income is recognised when received. ## **Expenditure** Expenditure is recorded when paid. ## **Taxation** The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities. ## **Fund accounting** Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
