Objectives and Activities
The principal aim of the charity is the relief of those in our community who for many constraints are at a disadvantage
The Objectives of the charity are:
-
1) The relief of those in need within Nottinghamshire and the surrounding area by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
-
2) To provide or assist in the provision of facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life.
Main Objectives for 2024/2025
Hong Kong Outreach Programme:
Our objectives have continued to remain the same, with events carefully planned and based on both in person feedback and online surveys in order to best serve the needs of this continually-growing community of 300+ residents.
We have been delighted by the positive feedback for our sessions and events and in wonder at the continuing increase in the number of attendees.
With the financial support of the Bassetlaw District Council and local councillors, the East Midland Council, the Postcode Place Trust Fund and the volunteering support coordinated by the Christ Church, four events have been successfully completed with a total participation of over 450 headcounts.
Christmas Project 2024 : The two events under this Project have received overwhelming response from nearly 250 participants at all ages. The party also served as a multi-cultural hub, bringing people of different backgrounds together to share the joy of the festival and to understand each other.
Lunar New Year Party 2025 : This event was attended by a record-breaking number of over 170 participants from all ages. Our young people and elders made lovely flower bunches for their beloved ones; all participants experienced love through the ‘passing love’ game, linking with the UK Valentine’s Day theme; and everyone enjoyed the delicious festive food and super exciting prize-winning quiz. Traditionally, Lunar New Year is an occasion of family get together and friends’ reunion for Hong Kong people. The generous support from the local and regional funding authorities has enabled the Hong Kong community to continue embracing its custom in the new settled place, and at the same time, to share the Hong Kong culture with the local community. It is a lifelong treasured memory to all the Hong Kong people.
According to the feedback survey, over 95% of the participants reside at Worksop and nearly all participants have rated satisfactory and above for the activities. On average, about 90% of them are not the first-time participants.
S8081 Community Foundation, in collaboration with Christ Church and St. Luke’s churches, will continue to work inclusively with the Hong Kong community as part of its commitment to diversity, equality and service to the vulnerable. There are services, events and groups that do and will continue to include Hong Kongers of all ages ( e.g. Seniors’ Coffee Morning, Youth Club, Toddler Group).
The above programme has been very successful and whilst we aim to continue supporting the integration of the Hong Kong community it was suggested that we formally request from our contact at the Post Code Lottery Funders to extend the scope of the programme to support another S8081 project in Rhodesia (which is in the top 15% of the English Index of Multiple Deprivation ) the area is a former mining area which ranks 15 in the IMD2019. This was done and the funder agreed to our transferring the monies on the approval of S8081 Board agreeing.
At the board meeting in May 2025 the Board approved that the remaining Postcode Lottery funding (originally sought to fulfil our work with the Hong Kong Community ) which was complete in the sum of £5,330.05 is to be used to fund Kay in Rhodesia through to the end of 2025.
Community Outreach Worker Report
Rhodesia Project is one which supports the work of a Community Organiser (who was funded by the Local Communities Fund 2024-2025, now ended), who has instigated a weekly Toddler Group, a Coffee Morning and a Warm Welcome + Food Bank which is supplied via the S8081 Food Project. These groups look to serve the needs of young Mum’s, the unemployed, isolated and lonely elderly.
During the past 7 months, a wide range of events were organized to engage with community members. These included:
-
Weekly Coffee Morning and Welcome Meet
-
Playgroup is thriving which is being used primarily to set the children for their progress into Nursery encouraging them to learn to share and socialise.
-
A trip to York Christmas Market
-
A trip to Whitby
-
3 members of the group are organising a Spa Day, a Garden Centre visit and an overnight stay in Harrogate.
Basic Needs Assistance
Our outreach program provided essential services to meet the basic needs of vulnerable community members:
-
Food Distribution: - we receive donations from Christ Church Food Project which is distributed at our Welcome Event on Wednesdays.
-
Support and befriending of vulnerable adults especially recently a care giver for an elderly relative who passed away has attended our groups which supports her by getting her out of the house and helping her to access other areas of support available and to realise she is not alone in the community.
Conclusion
Without a doubt the community outreach program has made significant strides in engaging with the community, providing essential services, and fostering solidarity. Despite facing challenges, the dedication of our volunteers encouraged and supported by our Outreach Support Worker, our partnerships with local members of the Council, and particularly the resilience of the community members are the driving forces behind the program's achievements.
We will continue to look for funding to ensure the continuance of the charity and it's work as we wish to see the charity to remain at the forefront in the provision community. community needs especially among the marginalised and lonely people within our community.
