Trustees’ Annual Report

Objectives and Activities

Jade’s Bags Charity is established to provide essential support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship within Preston and the surrounding areas. Our primary objective is to relieve poverty and improve wellbeing by supplying food, clothing, and essential household items to those in crisis.

We deliver a range of services designed to meet immediate needs, including emergency food parcels, clothing, bedding, toiletries, and essential items for children and babies. In addition, we operate our Patient Essentials initiative, supporting local hospitals by providing dignity packs and necessities to patients who are admitted without access to essential items.

Referrals are received from a wide range of organisations, including social services, domestic abuse services, mental health teams, GP surgeries, housing associations, and local authorities. We also accept self-referrals, ensuring that support is accessible to those who may not be engaged with formal services. All activities are carried out in furtherance of the charity’s objectives and for the public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

Throughout the year, the charity has continued to respond to rising levels of need within the community. We have provided a substantial number of food parcels and essential household items to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, helping to ease immediate pressures and offer stability during extremely challenging times. In addition to this, we have supported young people leaving care by providing vital household items, including beds, sofas, and other essential furnishings. This support has enabled individuals to establish safe and comfortable home environments as they take their first steps into independent living.

Our Patient Essentials initiative has remained a key area of impact, with ongoing support provided to local hospital wards. This has ensured that vulnerable patients have access to basic toiletries and essential items, helping to restore dignity and reduce additional stress during hospital stays. Feedback from healthcare staff has continued to highlight the importance of this provision, particularly where patients have no immediate support network.

The charity has also strengthened its community engagement through fundraising activities, including events and local initiatives. These efforts have not only generated vital income but have also increased awareness of the charity’s work and strengthened relationships with local supporters and partners.

Overall, the charity’s activities have had a meaningful and measurable impact. Through the provision of practical support, we have helped to improve wellbeing, reduce hardship, and ensure that individuals and families are not left without essential items during times of crisis. Our efforts have offered stability, dignity, and reassurance to those facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives.

Financial Review

During the financial year ended 31[st] January 2026, the charity recorded total incoming resources of £28,433. The majority of this income was generated through community fundraising activities and donations, reflecting strong local support and continued engagement with the charity’s work.

Total expenditure for the year amounted to £25,900, with the largest proportion allocated to charitable activities. This included the provision of food parcels, essential non-food items, and support delivered through the Patient Essentials initiative. Additional expenditure was incurred in relation to fundraising activities, which played a key role in generating income and supporting the sustainability of the charity.

The charity recorded a surplus of £2,534 for the year, increasing total funds carried forward to £30,798. This reflects careful financial management and the trustees’ commitment to ensuring that resources are used effectively to meet demand while maintaining a stable financial position.

Reserves Policy

The charity aims to maintain a modest level of reserves to ensure continuity of service delivery and to provide a buffer against unexpected increases in demand or fluctuations in income.

At the year end, total funds carried forward amounted to £30,798. These funds are held to support the ongoing delivery of charitable activities, including the provision of essential items and emergency support to beneficiaries.

Due to the nature of the charity’s work, demand can be unpredictable, and reserves may be drawn upon to respond to urgent need. The trustees continue to monitor the level of reserves to ensure that they remain appropriate in relation to the scale and nature of the charity’s activities.

Structure, Governance and Management

Jade’s Bags Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) governed by its constitution. The charity is managed by a board of trustees who are responsible for the overall strategic direction, governance, and financial oversight of the organisation.

Trustees are appointed through an agreed process in accordance with the charity’s governing document. They speak regularly to review the charity’s activities, financial position, and future plans, ensuring that all decisions are made in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries.

The day-to-day activities of the charity are supported by volunteers, who play a vital role in delivering services and supporting beneficiaries. The trustees ensure that appropriate systems and controls are in place to manage resources effectively and to support the safe and efficient delivery of services.
