2. Charity’s Objectives and Activities

Anwaarul Uloom is an Islamic charitable organisation, based in Walsall, West Midlands, committed to meeting the religious, and educational needs of the community, primarily females. This financial year, there were 101 students enrolled in the institution.

Our vision is to foster a learning environment where students not only gain intellectual mastery in classical Islamic Sciences, but to provide an environment where students can comfortably access Islamic knowledge.

Rooted in the tradition of Islamic scholarship, our mission is to cultivate knowledgeable, confident, and ethically grounded Muslims who can contribute meaningfully to their communities in contemporary society.

Our aim is to advance the religion of Islam, by means of, but not exclusively, promoting its’ teachings and tenets through the provision of facilities for Islamic education, in accordance with the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Anwaarul Uloom recognises that every Muslim needs to strive to acquire knowledge in all aspects that affect mankind’s existence; from historical to contemporary, from academic to

vocational, from pragmatic to dogmatic and from Islamic to secular. We aim to foster a supportive and welcoming community for all students at Anwaarul Uloom, allowing them to have the self-esteem and confidence to play a positive and inclusive role in their communities, to be good Muslims and exemplary citizens.

3. Objectives and aims

The trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, including the guidance 'public benefit: running a charity (PB2)'.

4. Overview of Activities and Events:

3. Achievements and Performance

We have recognised that Anwaarul Uloom’s current premises is operating at capacity and is unable to facilitate the scale of current and future activities. There is currently a waiting list of 40 applicants for our Islamic Sciences course, who we are unfortunately unable to accept due to space constraints.

Therefore, in July 2024, Anwaarul Uloom instructed a Building Contractor to commence renovation work on the current premises. This project would substantially increase the floor space of the premises and allow Anwaarul Uloom to expand our course and event offerings and improve the current condition of the building. Work has just commenced, with the estimated completion date of the project to be by the end of the next financial year, August 2025. Funding for the project has been acquired through donations.

The project will include:

Independent Examiners Report to the Trustees of Anwaarul Uloom

For the period 1 March 2023 to 31 August 2024

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period ended 31 August 2024, which are set out on pages 6-8.

Respectve responsibilites of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act)) and that an independent examination is needed, since the charity’s gross income for the period has not exceeded £250,000.

It is my responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act, follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act) and state whether any matters have come to my attention.

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions issued by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’.

Independent examiner’s statement

I confirm that, in connection with my examination, no matters have come to my attention:

  1. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the act have not been met; or

  2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
