## **Our aim**

To promote for the benefit of the public the acquisition, conservation, preservation and operation of heritage buses and coaches and associated artefacts and to advance the education of the public in the said vehicles for the benefit of the culture and heritage of Cornwall in particular.

## **Activities during the reporting period**

The Society has continued to flourish over the last 12 months. Charity status has been achieved and Gift Aid tax relief has assisted us in progressing larger projects which needed funding.

The regular working days – generally fortnightly – has given the members opportunities to get hands on with the vehicles and artifacts, allowing them to also learn from our Engineering team in basic maintenance and refurbishment. 10 to 15 volunteers attend on a regular basis contributing some 1700 volunteer hours per year.

We also have held Monthly Bus Club meetings in Four Lanes, Redruth. All members are invited to attend for a meal or drink and catch up on all things Cornwall Bus related. Some of our senior members will discuss historically significant events and topics and help to plan future events. These are attended by 10 members on average adding 20hrs volunteering on each session.

## **Other activities**

At all of the below events there is publicity stalls or members present to speak to visitors at length about our organisation in order to educate the interested members of the public and preserve Cornwall bus history.

Penzance Vintage Bus Running Day – April 2023 – our major event run in association with the Thames Valley and Great Western Omnibus Trust (TVAGWOT) saw some 4000 plus free bus journeys delivered with heritage vehicles across the West of Cornwall, to educate and show historically significant vehicles and memorabilia to the people of West Cornwall. We supplied 8 vehicles and 20 or so volunteer drivers, conductors and support staff on the ground to ensure the day ran smoothly. This contributed some 500 volunteer hours.

Trevithick Day 2023 – supporting this important heritage day in Camborne, 4 vehicles and supporting volunteers ran the Park & Ride service for the organisers developing stronger links with the local community and heritage organisations. Extra 60 volunteer hours

Rame Buses Event 2023 – moving into East Cornwall to support our members who help to organise this event. 3 buses and supporting volunteers attended – additional 75 volunteer hours.

Isle of Wight Rydabus event May 2023 – a visit for 18 members and 1 vehicle to the Isle of Wight to help support the IOW Bus Museum. Continuing to forge links with other Preservation and Heritage organisations strengthens our Society for parts, expertise and knowledge. Additional 200 volunteer hours

Cornwall Vintage Commercial Run June 2023 – 4 vehicles and 6 support staff organised the event for the benefit of the Cornwall heritage scene. Additional 60 volunteer hours

St.Buryan Vintage Rally Weekend August 2023 – 8 vehicles and 15 support staff attended over the weekend. Additional 150 volunteer hours

Kingsbridge Running Day 2023 – in support of the Thames Valley and Great Western Omnibus Trust (TVAGWOT) 4 vehicles and 8 support staff attended to help conduct services on this day. Additional 120 volunteer hours

Isle of Wight Busrider event October 2023 – a visit for 20 members and 1 vehicle to the Isle of Wight to help support the IOW Bus Museum. Continuing to forge links with other Preservation and Heritage organisations strengthens our Society for parts, expertise and knowledge. Additional 300 volunteer hours.

West Cornwall Road Run October 2023 – 4 vehicles and 6 support staff attended. Additional 50 volunteer hours.

Total Volunteering hours - 3455hrs

Acquisition of Mercedes Citaro O530 (WK08 ESV) Truro Park & Ride – through Cornwall Council this was acquired for the nominal charge of £1 plus tyre charges from First South West Ltd. This vehicle is the only surviving example of the original Truro P&R fleet to survive a devastating fire at Western Greyhounds depot in 2013. It will be shortly MOTd and will be out on the Rally circuit in 2025. This modern vehicle resonates with the younger generation of our membership preserving their memories of times passed. It helps with the education of the public in relation to new on bus technology including onboard displays and announcements

Completion of Transbus Pointer Dart - TT03 TRU – refurbishment into Truronian livery. The vehicle was acquired late in 2022 for £750. Through kind donations and fundraising efforts it has been repanelled, repainted professionally and then vinyled by one of our Trustees culminating in the first unveiling at the Penzance Running Day.

Looking into 2024 – 2025 the Committee and Trustees look forward to developing further links with local schools to show our heritage and history to continue to preserve and future proof our organisation. Fundraising will continue to be a challenge, however our funds as shown in the Accounts document are healthy and showing a surplus into the fund.
