Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association Trustees’ Annual Report 2024

1. Basic information

The charity’s name is Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association. The registration number is 1202106.

The address is 10 Hardy Close, Huntingdon PE29 1RR.

The trustees are Joan Hall of 10 Hardy Close, Huntingdon PE29 1RR, Patrick Kadewere of 7 Othello Close, PE29 1SU, Marion Kadewere of 7 Othello Close, PE29 1SU, and Janet Thomas of 16 Othello Close, PE29 1SU.

During the period covered by this report, Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association was governed by a constitution adopted on 28[th] February 2023. A new constitution was adopted on 19[th] February 2025.

2. Structure and management

Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association is run by a group of four trustees who meet quarterly. Day to day activities are carried out by the chair and secretary. No trustees have been recruited. Support is provided to local neighbourhood watch schemes through the national Neighbourhood Watch database.

3. Activities and objectives

Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association’s objectives this year have been to set up and support new neighbourhood watch schemes across Huntingdonshire; to promote engagement between Cambridgeshire Constabulary and the public; and to carry out activities supporting Safer Streets Five.

The activities have been establishing five new neighbourhood watch schemes in Huntingdon and five new schemes in St Neots. This was supported by a leaflet drop with the Police Cadets. We organised Coffee with a Cop sessions in St Neots library for members of the public to speak to the police on an informal basis.

The neighbourhood watch schemes under Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association carried out their ordinary activities. Trustees of Huntingdonshire Neighbourhood Watch Association act as area coordinators for the national Neighbourhood Watch database.

Ordinary neighbourhood watch activities through the local schemes included regular meetings, information sharing around safety and crime prevention, and facilitating engagement with Cambridgeshire Constabulary.

The trustees confirm that in planning the Association’s activities they have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.

4. Achievements and performance

The Association experienced some challenges in 2024, including the resignation of the chair and resulting communications issues. Trustees devoted significant time to resolving these matters.

In light of this, the trustees are reviewing whether the Association’s work might be better delivered under the umbrella of Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Watch Association.

Nevertheless, we feel we had some substantial achievements during 2024. Setting up ten new neighbourhood watch schemes and continuing to support them is a particular achievement.

5. Financial review

Our only income in 2024 was funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Police and Crime Commissioner under Safer Streets Five, which was spent on leaflets, lamppost plaques, window stickers, personal alarms, and gazebos for street stalls. Because of the difficulties mentioned above, we did not distribute as much of these resources as we had hoped in 2024 but they continue to be used.

To simplify finances, we closed our bank accounts on 9[th] January 2025 and our remaining funds are now held in a ring-fenced account by Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Watch Association.

We do not hold any funds as custodian trustees.
