Goole Amateur Boxing Club Tru8tees' Annual Report (eonttnrrndj Year ended 31 March 2024 Achievgrnents and pgrft>miance Development Research into youth pros1On in Goole identffied the need for a bo,n9 club. Certain poslccQes in Goole suffer high levels of sCla1 deprivation. There is little on offer for young people. Youth clubs have been lost. In early 2020, the lien High Sheriff of The East Rkging of Yorkshire, Andrew Homcastle MBE, rnet with the Police and Crime Commissioner's Communty Engagement Officer ior the East Riding, Deborah Fagan. At that tirne Andrew was also Clair of the St Paul's Boxing Academy in Hull - an organisalion with a proven track record of social engagement and the motto of "Making Champions in the Ring and Champions in Life" Deborah reinforced the bep.efits that a boxing club could bring lo Goo.'e and offered to make an introduction to Jacky Cr2wfofd, then Chief Executive Officer al The Moorland5 Community Charity based in Gwle and that is how li all began. It was envisaged that the presence of a club would help redu levels of anti-social behaviour in the town and provide young peop with the opportunity to develop themselves for life ahead. (See deliverables) Initially, the development team wanted to prove deTrond for the facility and the Trustees at Moorlands agreed that the new club could operate under their charitable wing. Later, if successful, then a new and independent charity might be fomied to OTae the club. Premises were identtfied in the former Barclays Bank on Boothfery Road in the town ntre precinct, Work began by raising fund5: agreeing a lease, undertak,'ng p.ecessary alteration and fitting out works on the building, assembling a management team and ¢rUiting a team of volunteer coaches. This initiative wa5 led by Andrew, a small leam frorn ttr4e Moorlands Community Charity and supported by Mike Bromby MBE, Head Coach afr St Paul's Boxing Academy, who was always or, hand with advice and support together wrth the team * Englar,d Boxing. Mike helped greatly wlh the CrUitMent of the coaching team, identifying eouipment and providing guidance. His contributs'on was invaluable. Humberside Police also gave ts.me and support al every stage, as did the Rotary Club of Howden. The Smile Foundation provided help on govemance and $8t up, together with wise council from D8Vg Bertholini at local charity Cal Zero. Goole Amateur Boxing Club opened on 1st Juty 2021 and thereafter tfje local response has been phenomenal. The ¢lub is inclusNe and open tc all. As Head Coach, Renetta Edwards quotes ' we are not men and women: ky8 and girfs- we are boxers, who love the swrt of boxing. In Autumn 2022, with the club in its second surxessful year, the Management Board. in agreement with the Trustees Cf The Moorlands Communty Cb,arity, agreed the time was rigll to establish ils independence and moved lo set the Gcole Amateur Boxing Club Charitable Incorporated Organisation and from 1st April 2023, this new Charity operates the club. As an official it felt safe, securlLy were visible and doing a fabulous job. the crowd were a credit, the boxers and clubs were all respecrful to each other, the offlaIS learr¢ last night all said il's the Dest food and hospitality we had had at a show. The venue now Inat was perfect for your first show you should be really proud as you naileé it in my opinion, how ¢8n you expect lo 8t what you all did last night . Well done TEAM 4.The comblnation of all the above was recognised by GABC taking the Ci)arity of the Year category at this yearfs Goole & Howdenshire Business Awards. None of the above successes of course would have been possible without the enthusiastic and energetic support of a whole army of volunteers led by Head Coach Renetta Edwards. Nor would il have been possible without the generous financial support of io(21 businesses. individuals and granl awarding LK)dies. To all these people GABC CIO offers its extremety gratefvl thanks and approciation. Finally, though not in the balance sheet, GABC CIO has an unequivocal commitment from the Rotary Club of Howden for a grant Df £10,000.
