The Rotary Club of Bradford West Charity Fund is an unincorpor8t8d chanty and is cons*itLrt8d under a
trusl deed dated 14 December 1993
The Twstees are nominated and 8ppointed by the Club. The Club 18 managed by the Club Council which
comprises of the Officers and Six elected members. The Council and Trustees meets monthly to facilitate
the administration of the Charity.
3. Objoctlvos and actlvltles
The primary objectives are to apply the capital and income of the fund to the bènefit of such ch8ntable
institutions, societi88 and objects as the Club shall, in duly wnstituted meeting. from time to time dlrecl.
4. Club Servlce Report
District Handovgr 23rd Jun• 2024
A great start to our 501h year, District 1040 welcomed one of our members was made Di8triGt Governor
at the handover luncheon at Brighouse.

Charter dlnner
It was a sellout. A 'good night was had by all. Certainty a special everrt which was
extremely well attended. Whilst Jody was our guest speaker and something different to
the norm, the applause must go one of our members. who gave a spontaneous and
heartfelt talk about his 50 years with Bradford West. We W￿re honoured to host our Lord
Mayor and our very own DG. It shows what we can do as a club as everyone mucks in.
Working with The Bradford (Park Avenue) Sports Foundation. IBPASF)
We were approached in April to partner with BPASF in a new scheme which will harness the power of
football and sport to inspire and engage young people. particularly those at risk of anti-social behaviour,
youth violence, or those from htgh-need areas. This would be known as The Rotary Kickback
program￿￿. Members wer8 enthused by this proposed programme, which should lead young people
away from a life of crim8. It was decided to explore ways of progressing this.
Steps taken so far are=
We arranged a meeting belween repr8sentatives of BPASF and representatives of Rotary
Clubs in the Bradford Group as it was felt that working with other Clubs in the area would be
beneficial both BPASF and Rotary in Bradford.
We have agreed to donate £555 towards the costs in undertaking the programme.
We have arranged a fund-raising event to, hopefully, raise the addttional £645 towards the
initial £1200 required to enable Ihe programme to be launched in mid-July.
We have offered them corporate membership.
For their part BPASF have undertaken a bucket collection to raise funds for the Rotsry Schc)ol in Sri
Lanka. and have offe￿d replica kit for us to donate to worthwhile projects etc.
Webmaster
Re Webstte. The website has been kept to date with event and project reports and with prior publicty.
The Cognito online booking system seems to work well.
As in previous years we have a -2024125 Projects and Events- page. and all projects and events hekl
during the year have been set up as sub-pages.
The six featured pages on the home page have been regularly changed to keep them up to date and
relevant.
A new page has been set up to simplify the procedure for submitting new projects and events to council
for approval.
Re Social Media_ Regular postings on Facebook have kept our club in the spotlight and thanks must
be given to our two main contributors. (You know who you are!) In order to appeal to a younger
demographiG, we need to perhaps look at other areas of social media e.g. TikTok. Instagram, Bluesky
etc. Volunteers to do this will be welcomed!
Ballotsn Race.
An online eco balloon race was held in conjunctbon with our 50th Charter anntversary dinner on 21sI
September 2024. The race lasted for 7 days and finsshed during the event. The winners were
announced after the meal.
We sold 119 tickets at £5 each (£595.) After payment of prizes and expenses (£167) a profrt of £428
was made for our Charity Trust.
I won't mention any names but the 1 st and 2TrJ placed balk)ons wer8 owned by a member who has a
habit of winning our lunchtime raffle. This member very kindly made a donation to the Charity Trust out
of the winnings.

Foundation l Fellowship Weekend
Our principal source of fund raising has been the weekty wine raffle. Collection has been by direct
debit from all participating members. whether attending or not, enabling us to raise more and more by
year.
Last year we exceeded £2000 for the first time. This year we anticipate a similar totsl of £ 2000 or so
by the financial year end.
The loose change jar has become an ever more important source of income as m8mbers embrace the
concept.
Raffles during the year have also added to the total.
The Fellowship Weekend this year took in Coventrylstratford and Leamington Spa. The weather was
good and all members who attended had an enjoyable weekend. despile the coach breaklng down on
our retum Journey.
Hopefully we can continue these trips for a few years longer.
Rotary Chlldren's Fun Day - Tuesday 23rd July 2024
42 pupils and 14 staff from Southfield School attended Hesketh Farm Park on the day. The weather
was perfect and the students fed animals, go-karted, explored the play areas. had a picnic and finish8d
with a tractor ride.

Llttlemoor Park
During the year. members attended a tre8 planting session., and in the space of less than 2 houts, over
300 shrubs were planted and Govered with protective sheaths.
That did not stop some vandals by the next day pulling out a number of stacks.
Nol daunted, they were replaced, and all is well.
Last year's planted shrubs have taken well with very few perishing.
Littlemoor Park is now a designated nature reserve
Malawl 2024-26
Two visits wer8 done, the first in November 2024 and again during Aprillmay 2025.
Apart from the usual clinical workload, we had a 2 day teaching session with the Clinical Officgrs and
hosted the second international endoscopic course.
Developmeni planning within the department was constructive. Various techni¢81 and maintenance
issues were identif￿d and plans left to correct.
Visits to The Butteffly Foundation were enjoyable. The children are realty benefiting from there
additional education. The grants from York RC have gone to purchase tools for the voGatlonal trained
students.

as part of the sustainability maintenance and improvement to the 'private rooms, was
required. He hosted an open day with the help of Limbe Rotary. This led to meeting other NGO'S which
will help. Rotarian Mahesh Kolecha has step up to help with the various tasks. Hg will suppty the work
force rfwe supply the 'product'
The programme will involve improvements to water suppty, repalr of bathrooms. hot water supply. Work
with matron on the laundry projeGt, Iheatre doors and building a store room.
Purchase of over 80 metres of material was purchased for theatre drapes and tray wraps_ We are still
in discussions on how to improve the nursing manpower which in turn would improve productivity and
hence income. 3500 hearing aids were taken over and distributed to 3 main centres

Mental health project- £1000 was handed to Limbe Rotarian President
Reuben to contribute to their support of a pilot study into the mental health of
students. They have seen a very significant increase in mental health
problems including suicide rates.
Rotary Peace Follows.
Sadly, the student allocated to us for 2024-25 from Nfgeria was refused a visa. She apparently had had
rejection previously for reasons not known to us.
Ukraine
Tim Marsden continues to go with hts driver Steve, to Ukraine. I think to date, he has done 22 trips
since the start of the War.
We have been able to help colle¢t equipment and disposables
from the Yorkshire Clinic and some items from Bradford Royal
Infirmary. There is just a small contribution compared to the 42-
foot trailers that go over from Hull to Rotterdam. Personal
donations have also been made, and these go to Adventurers
Rotary.
Some members are on his I￿atsApP group where he relays
graphic details of the encounters they have had.
Tim also has a contact with refurbished NHS hearing aids, and I managed to take 3500 over to Malawi
in our re￿nt trip.

Bronte Birthplac• Walk
The walk was organr£ed on Easter Sunday, 20th April 2025, to commemorate the day the Bronté family
moved from Thomton to Haworth with horses and cart. The event attracted hundreds of people both in
Thornton and Haworth, as the horses and cart went by, carrying the Bronte children (from the local
school) and accompanied by Patrick Brontè and Maria Brontè. Regency costumes were worn. Walkers
who completed the whole route on foot received a Certificate of Completion. The event concluded with
a talk by a representative of the Bronte Birthplace in The Old School Room in Haworth. Refreshments
were donated by Rotary members.
A total of £2,250 was raised, the majority from a Just Giving fundraising campaign, and some from
collections on the day. This ¢ould be increased by £560 rf the Brontè Birthplace receives charitable
status. Costs of hiring Ihe horses and cart (£750) were defrayed by the Bronte Birthplace, whilst costs
for the costumes1£248.39) and the donation for use of the School Room were borne by Bradford West
Rotary Club. Net funds raised for donation to the Birthpla￿ are £2,001.61(excluding gift aid)
Hedge Plantlng-
Friday 14th March - Thornton Primary School - 60 children
Saturday 15th March- General public and other schoolchildren
The idea was to make an environmentally friendly hedge, pioviding food for wildlife. Thi5 will also
create a people-friendly space, with attractive landscaping interspersed with benches for 50¢ial
interadion.
Bradford West Rotary members helped to organise the planting. Vve planted a wide variety of hedging
plant5 interspersed with a few trees. In all we planted 4 collections of plants, totalling 420 _ equivalent
to a 1 OOM double row hedge..

Charities-. Statement of Re¢ommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts
in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of
