The Oldham Band (Lees)

’ – Trustees Annual Report October 2023

We have taken the commission’s public benefit guidance into account when preparing this report. All of the relevant documentation is up to date.

The Oldham Band (Lees)’ objects are to promote the advancement and improvement of general education in all aspects of the art of playing brass band instruments through the presentation of concerts and other performances and to raise public taste in brass band music and the standard in performance in that music through competition.

During the last 12 months the band has continued to participate in contests. The band finished 8[th] in the North West Regional Contest and 4[th] in The Grand Shield; both contests were held in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. The band was particularly successful in the Whit Friday contests, finishing in 2[nd] place overall to Brighouse and Rastrick.

The band has continued to support our local community and have supported Crompton and Royton Rotary Club, St Michael’s Church Ancoats, Lees Remembrance Sunday event organised by the Lees Branch of the Royal British Legion.

The accounts are being prepared for the auditor.

Financial updates are standing items on the AGM and band meeting agendas.

On behalf of the trustees, I would like to thank all the members of the band for their support during the last 12 months.

Form of Audit- I have reviewed expenditure items including their substantiating paperwork as well as validating these to the relevant banking transactlons. There is no petty cash expenditure. Income wa5 verified by reference to the bank statements. Record Keeping-the financial record keeping of the band is good. though I would note that in a couple of insrances the phasing I recording of the costs incurred were not in line with the claims submitted by the individuals, though the total payable was correct and as such did not represent mist-statement of the accounts in total. The accounts and 5UPPOrting paperwork presented were in good order. Opinlon- havirE examined the accounts, I can say that in my opinion they represent a true and fair view of the financial proceedings of the Oldham Band (Lees) for the period to 31 October 2023.
