The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 30 June 2024. 

## **Structure, Governance, and Management** 

Canvey Kehilla Ltd is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 14 June 2022, and registered as a charity on 17 February 2023. The charity is governed by its Articles of Association. The trustees are responsible for the overall management and control of the charity and meet regularly to oversee its activities. New trustees are appointed in accordance with the provisions set out in the Articles of Association. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

The charity's objects are specifically restricted to advancing the Orthodox Jewish faith for the public benefit in Canvey Island, Essex, in such ways as are charitable under the law of England and Wales. This includes, but is not limited to: 

- Providing support and assistance to synagogues where prayer services are held and religious festivals and life cycle events are celebrated. 

- Offering services to facilitate and assist the communal and individual practice of Orthodox Judaism. 

- Supporting educational institutions, events, and programmes that educate the Orthodox Jewish community, the wider Jewish community, and members of the general public on the teachings and practices of Orthodox Judaism. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

During the reporting period, Canvey Kehilla Ltd has made significant strides in fulfilling its charitable objectives: 

- **Construction of a Mikvah:** 

   - We have undertaken the construction of a new mikvah (ritual bath) to serve the religious and cultural needs of the community. This facility is essential for the practice of ritual purification and has been warmly received by community members. 

- **Support for Families in Need:** 

   - The charity has provided assistance to families, particularly focusing on welfare support during childbirth. This includes offering practical help and guidance to ensure the well-being of mothers and newborns. 

- **Facilitating Relocation to Canvey Island:** 

   - Recognising the challenges faced by families in overcrowded and overpriced inner cities, we have supported several families in relocating

to Canvey Island. This initiative aims to provide them with affordable living options and a better quality of life. 

- **Community Services and Festival Celebrations:** 

   - We have organised and facilitated various community services, especially during Jewish festivals. These events have strengthened communal bonds and allowed for the collective celebration of our heritage. 

- **Engagement with Wider Public and Authorities:** Efforts have been made to integrate the Jewish community with the broader public and public organisations, including the police, fire department, NHS, local authorities, government, and parliamentary officials. This engagement promotes diversity, mutual respect, and understanding. 

## **Plans for Future Periods** 

Looking ahead, Canvey Kehilla Ltd aims to: 

- Complete the construction and commissioning of the mikvah, ensuring it meets all regulatory and community standards. 

- Expand support services for families, particularly in areas of welfare and education. 

- Continue facilitating the relocation of families to Canvey Island, providing guidance and support throughout the process. 

- Enhance community engagement programmes, fostering stronger relationships within the community and with external organisations.

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations. Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. I report the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Canvey Kehilla Ltd ('the charity') for the year ended 30 June 2024 set out on page 7. 

## **RESPONSIBILITIES AND BASIS OF REPORT** 

As the trustees of the charity, you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). 

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 

2. the financial statements do not accord with those records; or 

3. the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination. 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **Statement of directors' responsibilities** 

The directors are responsible for preparing the report and accounts in accordance with applicable law and regulations. 

Company law requires the directors to prepare accounts for each financial year. Under that law, the directors have elected to prepare the accounts in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). Under company law the directors must not approve the accounts unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the company and of the profit or loss of the company for that period. In preparing these accounts, the directors are required to: 

- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; 

- make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; 

- prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the company will continue in business. 

The directors are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the company's transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the company and enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with our terms of engagement and in order to assist you to fulfil your duties under the Companies Acts that relate to preparing the financial statements of the company for the year ended 30 June 2024. 

We have prepared these financial statements based on the accounting records, information and explanations provided by you. We do not express any opinion on the financial statements.

## **1 Statutory information** 

CANVEY KEHILLA LTD is a private company, limited by shares,  registered in England and Wales, registration number 14171098. The registered office is CANVEY KEHILLA JEWISH CENTRE, MEPPEL AVENUE, CANVEY ISLAND, SS8 9RZ, ENGLAND. 

## **2 Average number of employees** 

During the year the average number of employees was 2 (2023: 2). 

For the year ending 30 June 2024 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies. The members have not required the company to obtain an audit in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006. 

The directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts. 

These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the micro-entity provisions of the Companies Act 2006 and FRS 105, The Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the Micro-entities Regime.
