The alm of the Craftworks College Is kn create a safe space for young people and adults to
be and feel valued where they can make posltive soclal connections and thrfve., The college
provldes educatlon and tralnlng to young people aged 16 to 25 wtth spedal edu¢atlonal
needs and dlsabilitles (SEND), Includlng mental health needs. The objective Is for leamers
aged 16-24 to go onto a study programme 51udying vocational quallficatlons from Entry
Level to Level 2. Leafners study a range of subjects, IncludSn8 Practical Hortkulture, Creatlve
Craft, Food and Cookery and Fami Animal Care. All students have Engllsh and Maths
lesson5. Per50nal Development Sessions, and Interventlons to support thelr access to
learnln& all students are given the opportunlty to access Enrlthrnent artfvltles and Work
Experlence.

The college provlde5 educatlon and tralnlng to youn8 people aged 16 to 25 wlth special
educatlonal needs and d15abllltles ISENDI, Indudln8 mental hea￿h needs. At present 32% of
the young people we are working v•th have emotional health and wellbelng needs, 46% of
whom have not attended school for a slgnlficant tSme before lolnlng the College. Every
student enrolled In Craftworks College15 In recelpt of hlgh-needs funding and 94% of the
students have an Education and Health Care Plan. All students are In recelpt of fundln8
from the ESFA.
We recognlsed that many students who Joln the college have experlenced a dlfflcult tlme In
educatlon, thls could be due to a dlsabillty. educationally or otherwise, a childhood trauma,
poor mental health or a variety of other reasons. As a result of thls many of our learners
have been NEEf. Cfaftworks College understand5 that our students frequently have a
negatlve attltude towards educatlon.

sequentlng of key skllls wlthln thelr core subject so that students can see Ilnks between
dlfferent areas of knowledge and ski115 and recognise that some knowledge and skllls are
transferable, Each prolert takes Into account the bullding of skllls. embeddln& and hard-
wirln8 the knowledge through sequendn& repetltlon, prattkal appllcatlon, and assessment.

In a varlety of projects to demonstrate appllcatlon In vark*us gulses. Th15 sequencefl and
re8ularly assessed approach means students have had the necessary guldance, support and
encouragement, allowlng them to plan a future where they can feel Safe, make soclal
connections, learn, and thrlve; enterlng Into for Instance employment, fvrther educatlon,
supported apprentlceshlps, volunteerfn& maklng friend5, living independently with the
confldence to try new thlngs.

Craftworks College Charity looks to work wth our students to provlde students wtth
qualifications to enable them to access the world of work. To provide Ilfe skills to ensure
they are able to be as Independent as possible and to make posltlve sodal connectlons
enablin8 them to take part In society. By supportlng students to athleve these alms we as a
tharlty meet our future alms of supporting those with disabllltles to have good access to
opportunitles reduclng the gap between those who are mainstream and those who have
additional needs.

The college has 6 sttes, 3 in Ashford comprlslng of Food wlth Friends café whith15 sltuated
Inslde a government Gateway Plus buildin8 in tentral Ashford. Stourside Farm, whlch Is
located on the Wyvern School site for SEND, and Muddy Wellies tommunlty fami whlch Is In
Smeeth. Two 51tes are In Faversham, Brogdale Fami, the orlglnal slte lo¢*ed wlthln the
home of the Natlonal Fruft Collertlon, and a Georgian and Vlctorlan Walled G3rden In
Faversham. The maln office and other 51te Is Culnells Farm in Iwade. Many of the sltes are
rural to support the provision of local servlces to young people who Itve In those
communltle&
There Is a clear adm1$5i0ns process where parents, 5th1)ols, colleges, and the local authorlty
can ask Craftworks College to conslder the student as sultable and offer them a place.
Potentlal students and parentslcarers are sent information about the college, offered a slte

which supports personal development and well-belng as they move through thelr pathway

enables the student to have the rlght level of support in all currlculum areas- Vocatlonal,

We measure pro8ress for eath student based on thelr progress from thelr starting polnts.
Each student Is baselined on startin8 In thelr English, maths, vocational sub]Èct and a8alnst
their Education and Heakh Care plan targets. They are set long term targets and termlv
short targets. We record thelr ochlevements each term, tracklng their progre55 towards
ademic achlevements and personal goals. As a post 16 speciallst provlder college we are
also regulated by Ofsted Inspections. these provlde a measure lor our progre55 agalnst
natlonal standards. Craftworks College Charlty is rated overall as a Good provlder wlth
Outstandlng provlslon In our Personal Development.
Publlc benefit statement
The Charlty Is state funded and strives to promote and sUPPOrt the educatlon and tralnlng
to young people aged 16 to 25 with speclal educational needs and d15abllltles. The funding
that we have recelved from the ESFA is £1,126,099, SENCO £54,507.

overall rate of 78.12%. The achlevement rate has Improved year on year over a five year
trend, Food Cookery and Hortlculture rates have Improved 5igniflcantly over the past year.

Care has a lot of students progresslng who are retumlng to complete thls year.

From 2021122 to 202213 we have mana8ed to reduce our In-year leavers and have refiected
on our admlssions process so that leavers that leave wthln term I do so w￿h posltlve
outcomes, In line wlth the posltive outcomes we have In place for our In-year leavers. As in
2021122 the 6.15% of temi I leavers did so wbthout altemotNe provlslon and are NEEr
learners.. whereas In-year leavers hlstoricalty have had posltlve outcomes such as
employment, en8agin8 with onllne courses, social care and supported Ilvlng and alternative
provlslon.
In 22123 we had 5 learners leave within term l and 5 learners leave early In the academlc
year. Of the 5 learners that left within the first tem), I dld so due to a 51gniflcant

support th15 learner, despite this, we supported thls leamerthroughout term I to complete
thelr quallflcatlon. before we advocated on thelr behalf for a change of placement. We then

would be better sulted to thelr needs and Hsplratlons. Flnally, we sUPPOrted our final leaver,

establlshments, both malnstream and spedallst. In four years our NEET percentage has
dropped by 63% In splte of our leaver rate Increastng by 17 students, this15 1 testament to

The trustees regularly revlew the re5etve levels of the Academy Trust. Revlews en¢ompas$
the nature of the Income and expenditure streams, the need to match Income wlth
commitments and the nature of reseryes. The Trustees have determlned that the
approprfate level of reserves should be approxirnately £3LWJ.000 whereas the actual un rln8
fenced reserve5 were £112,584. The charity wlll be looklng to Increase these over the
comln8 couple of years. The rea50n for holdlng resenrfes Is to provme sufficlent working
capttal to cover delays between spendln8 and recelpt of grants and to provide a cushktrn to

ond Ashford area. Thls would mean that we would look to find a premlses to offer a Food
and Cookery course in the Swale are. We are'seeking to have thls offer to enable students
In both areas to be able to attess opportunltles where there15 a good posslblllty of 8alnlng
quallficatlons that enable them to go intojobs in the local economy. By provlding these
courses in Swale and Ashford we are provldingto 2 key areas In Kent that have the hlghest
number of disabled young people and In rural communltles that are often Challen￿n8 to
provlde forthls dlsadvanta8ed group. We know from prevlous experlence that our cohort
of students are able to access and achleve qualffications in these Subject areas. that from
our excellent progresslon results we have been able to support students Into work related
areas and or other further educatlon courses. We thus wish to build on the success of our
current work.

Craftworks Colle8e Chartty advertlses for new trustees through soclal media, the y￿b$Ite,
through assotiatlon with current trustees and college staff and through the college network
of educatlon a550ciates. When recruitlng a trustee they wlll be asked to complete an
appllcatlon fom whlch Is then scfutinlsed by the current trustees for suttablllty. Those
approprlate are selected for inteNlew by the chalr and ar￿ther trustee and Prlntlple of the
¢ollege. They are then subject to questlons that ensure they have the approprlate skills,
knowledge, and experlence to 511PPOrt the alms of the charity. If they fulfil this they are
then appolnted and wrftten to by the chalr of the trustees to formalty offer them the post.

Craftworks outlinlng the role that Brogdale CIC staff wlll do to provlde speclfic work
experlence opportunltles on set sites, with speclfK students. The funding for this Ls
provlded by Kent County Councll as part of thelr element 3 hl8h needs fundlng.
Vlbe communlty Is a limlted company that provides fvn leisure attl￿tIeS for young people
aged 8- 25 in the Swale and A5hford area of Kent Craftworks College Charity slgnp05ts
students to the opportunltles for letsure actmties wlth them during the term breaks. All
three companles work off the same sltes. share the buildlngs and some resources. Staff are
