The Sorn Foundation Trustees’ Annual Report and Accounts

Charity Number: 1201859 Financial Period: 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025

Trustees’ Annual Report

Introduction and Charity Objectives

The Sorn Foundation exists to empower women and children living in rural Cambodia through education and community development. The charity aims to break the cycle of poverty and social exclusion experienced by many women and children by providing access to education, skills development, and community support.

The charity seeks to achieve its objectives through the delivery of grassroots education and training programmes, Khmer and English education packages, basic skills development, healthy relationship workshops, sexual health education, and women’s rights and parenting education.

Achievements and Performance

During the financial year ended 31 March 2025, the charity provided education to 44 children aged 3–12 years, promoted physical and mental wellbeing through structured activities, and delivered women’s empowerment and parenting education programmes.

Volunteers and Trustees

The charity was governed by four trustees and supported by four volunteers operating in the UK and Cambodia. All trustees and volunteers served in an unpaid capacity.

Financial Review

Total income for the year amounted to £7,374, all received through voluntary donations. Total expenditure was £7,480, resulting in a net deficit of £106 due to costs paid shortly before year end. The charity continues to operate on a near break-even basis.

Reserves Policy

The trustees aim to maintain sufficient unrestricted reserves to meet ongoing commitments. Due to the charity’s small scale, reserves are intentionally modest.

Structure, Governance, and Management

The charity is governed by four trustees who oversee strategy, finance, and compliance. The charity owns a purpose-built school facility in Cambodia constructed at a cost of £10,000, used exclusively for educational activities.

Plans for the Future

The charity plans to expand outreach programmes, hold monthly women’s groups, expand the school building, and continue improving education quality and health outcomes.
