organlsation and in planning any futu￿ actlvities. Throu8hout. Trustees are satlsfled that HEART fully
comp11es wlth the guidance as set out by the Commission.
HEART'S servlces are therefore also cons15tent wlth the achlevement of the Objects through a varlety of
ways.
Flrst, our core servlce, whirh formed the Inltl31 work the organisatlon undertook, involve5 a range of practlcal
support for people In need. Services include carrying out shoppin8 for people who can't Sèt out or who are
recently dlscharged from h05Pital,' transportlng people wlthout access to thelr own transport, or who would
lind the use of PLFbllc transport unafftjrdable due to financial hardship or inaccessible due to disability or
inflrmlty Ipartlcularly to NHS appointments), telephone advlce, ￿ferra1$ and other Informatlon for people
unable to acce5S the charity's Community Info Hub in person, and the provision of acce55 Iboth physical and
through Informat5onl to a wide range of companionshlp andlor social interaction progfdmmes Ilncluding our
ownl for people who may be experiencing loneliness and/or isolation.
The second field of servlce ha5 now grown from the first and Is largely (though not excluslvelyl dellvered vla
the ¢harlty's Q*mmunlty Info Hub at Hastings Town Hall.

to which HEART engages In collaborative projetts wlth both statutory and non-5tatutory partner
organlsatlons, frequently b￿akIng new ground in tems of innovative and efficient service delivery. For
example, this ￿pOrting period his seen HEART engage wlth partners Inclvding Hastlngs Borough Councll,
Hastln8s Voluntary Action, the NHS, Citlzens Advice 1066, East Sussex County Council, Sussex Resillence
Forum, Su55ex Police, Sussex Mental Health Action Group, Orbit Housln& and the National Dlgltal Incluslon
Network.

The Trustees of thé Charlty are also Its Member5. They are indlvlduals drawn from the local rommunity and
they normally resSde In the distric15 of Hastlngs & St Leonards. The￿ is no maxlmum Ilmit on the number of
Trustee5 whlch may be appointed but there is a minimum requirement for three Trustees to be appolnted at
any one time,
As a new Charltyi Tru51ees were appolnted by way of election at the Ilme of adoptlon of the ConstSiutlon to
serve for a varyln8 number of years, namtly Lesley ILe4hl Levane for an Inltlal three year5, Davld Easterby
and LorraSne Roberts for two years.
At meeting of 20th June 2024, the TnJstees formally (Tropted a fourth Trustee, Ellzabeth Crew.
All four current Trustees were re.appolnted by way of election at the CharW5 first AGM on Thursday 12th
December 2024. In futu￿ Trustees wlll seel or not seek re*lectlon at the Charity's AGM and will serve lor
one year at a tlme untll re-election.
Trustees a￿ entitled to ctropt additional Trustees at any Trustee meeting provided the number of co-opted
Trustees does not ex￿ed one thlrd of the total number of Trustees. No other persons or bodies external to
the CIO are entitled lo appoint persons to the Trustee Board.

The buslness of the charlty Is managed by the Trustees who may exercise all the powers of the tharity. The
Trustee Board meet5 In formal ses51on at least quarterly to determlne overall pollcy and superv15e the
furtheranee of the charlty'5 objects. Where appropriate. the Trustees also dellberate and make declslons by
electronlc commynScatlL)ns outside formal meetings.
Day to day oryanlsatlonal declslons are delegated to the Chlef Officer and Flnance and Fundra15in8 Lead.

The Trustees take the protection of personal dala seriously. They are alert to the risks of data 1055, rnISU5e,
cyber-attacks and other external threats and also to the chan8lnB regulatory envlronment. They have
adopted a robust Confldentiality and Privacy policy to safe8uard the personal data of cllen15, volunteers and
pald staff and to ensure compllance wlth the Data Protectlon Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protectlon
Re8ulations.

The Trustee Board re8ards dlverslty as an important stren8th for the charity. The Charity has an Equal

falrness, and to enablln8 people lo overcome barrlers to partlclpatlon. It actlvely seek5 a wlde Tange of skllls
and Ilfe experlence5 in both the composltlon of its Board. Its staff and Its volunteers.
Staff and Vclunteers
The charity ha5 a core of 6 employed staff12 full-time & 4 part-timel but it also relies upon the servlces of
large number of volunteers for the delivery of its seNlces. To date It maintains a roster of 336 approved
volunteers of whlch IS7 are available for assignments and have appropriate Di5c105ure and Barrln8 Service
learance.
The work of volunteer5 15 fundamentsl to Heart and they brlnB a broad di¥er5ity of skills to the charlty In all
its work. The monelary value of thelr support cannot be Included In the Flnèntlal Statements and Indeed this
monetary value Inadequately expresses what they bring to the charity. However, based on a 2024 livlng wage
of £11.44 per hour thi5 has an estimate total financlal value of some £33,176.

chan8es. As a result, the ri$k$ which the charity faces, the activities by which It seek5 to deliver Its charitable
Objects, and Sts Internal orBanlsation are constantly evolvlng. Heart's sutvlval depends in part from successful
rlsk takln8 and the abillty to seize and develop new revenue opportunitles as they arlse. The purpose of
Internal control Is not to ellmlnate rlsks but to Identwy, manage and control them appropriitelv.
Trustees revlew the rfsks presentSn8 to the organisation each qLbarter at their regular Trustee rneetlngs. These
can Involve potentlal chan8es to the Ilnancial cllmate and to the framework of social policy whlch affect

statements.
1.4 Charltable funds
Unre5trided funds a￿ avallable for use at the discretion of the Trustees in furtherance of their
charltable objectives.
Restricted funds are 5ubjert to speclflc condltions by donors or Brantors as to how they may be used.
