To promote water safety in all beach
activities, a Water Safety Talk at the Sailing
Club was held, raising awareness about the
importance of safety measures.
Additionally, the SwimSafe sessions,
conducted in partnership with Ffit Conwy,
educated 68 participants on water safety,
significantly contributing to the overall
safety of beach activities.
In developing beach lifesaving methods,
the club has been proactive in training
volunteers as lifeguards. Weekly training
sessions, covering sea, pool, and
theoretical aspects, have equipped
volunteers with comprehensive lifesaving
skills. The commencement of sea sessions
provided practical, hands-on experience in
real-life rescue scenarios. Furthermore,
affiliations with the Surf Life Saving
Association Wales and other relevant
organisations ensure that the club stays| |||updated with the latest lifesaving methods

The club has also focused on providing
coaching opportunities in the sport of surf
lifesaving. Regular pool sessions at Plas
Menai offer continuous coaching
opportunities for members. The launch of
club membership and the logo competition
have fostered a sense of community and
engagement in surf lifesaving activities.
Winter theory sessions held at
Llanfairfechan Town Hall/Library provide
ongoing education.
Club membership fees are set at the lowest
level commensurate with sustaining a
viable operation. Our fees compare
favourably with other local clubs and

young girl from Llanfairfechan, a
community initiative was launched to
establish a surf life saving club. The
journey began an initial online community
meeting, which saw 36 participants
register. A Water Safety Talk was held at
the local Sailing Club, to raise monies for
the initial set up humorously noted as
Roger Pierce (the local Outdoor Activity
Development Officer) "selling his soul," was
one of the early highlights.
In a touching gesture, the family of the
young girl who drowned decided to donate
the remaining funds raised by the local
community for her funeral to help with the
initial costs of setting up the club.
An information evening followed, attended
by 15 community members. The club
partnered with Ffit Conwy to run SwimSafe
sessions in Llanfairfechan, attracting 68
participants and 13 volunteers. The first
pool session for interested parties was held
at Plas Menai, the National Outdoor
Centre. The club also opened a bank
account and launched a competition for
designing its logo.
The club secured funding for pool sessions
through the Discover Llanfairfechan (Local
tourism association). A basic website and
app were created via Stack Team App, and
club email addresses were established.
Pool sessions continued at Plas Menai,
and the club successfully applied for
charitable status (CIO). A talk at the Rotary
Club led to a generous donation from
Llanfairfechan Rotary.
The club affiliated with the Surf Life Saving
Association Wales, Sport Conwy, and The
Outdoor Partnership. Sea sessions
commenced in April, running on Friday
evenings until October, with equipment
borrowed from Colwyn Bay SCLC and six
ex-RNLI boards, three of which have been
refurbished.
Club membership was launched, and the
development of policies is ongoing. The
club successfully applied for several grants,
including £1,500 from Llanfairfechan Town
Council, £2,500 from Anafon Dwr, and a
pending application from the Co-Op
Community Fund. Additionally, the club
received up to 10 free licenses through the
Microsoft Not for Profit Software application| |---|---|---| and approximately £11,500 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. IT systems are being set up, with a transition to Microsoft underway. Safeguarding training and DBS checks have started. The club was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by Llanfairfechan Town Council, and two members have qualified as NVBLQ Level 3 lifeguards. As at 31stMarch 2024 the clubs cash
position remained strong with closing bank
balance of £12270.38 (including reserves
of £11,149). Total income of £15,938.89
was received in the year, of which
donations received totalled £1957.94.
Membership income contributed £380.38.
Grant income received was £2433.31 and a
restricted grand fund of £11,163.76 (of
which £14.76 was spent on dry bags during
the year). The remaining balance of
£11,149 has been apportioned to reserves
for use in 2024-25.
Total costs of £480.40 were incurred for
room and pool hire. In addition, the
affiliation costs were £170 and subscription
fees of £369.67. During the year the club
purchased equipment to the value of
£2565.27. Bank charges totalled £76.17
