## **Section C                    Objectives and activities** 

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document** 

To advance the education of the public in the knowledge, study and conservation of birds in the counties of Suffolk and Norfolk, with a particular focus on the Waveney area, and to promote the preservation and conservation of such birds, in particular (but without limitation) by: 

a) encouraging the submission of records of wildlife seen in the two counties; to publish records and other information for members and the public; and to share this information with other wildlife organisations as appropriate. 

b) managing or participating in the management of nature reserves; c) publishing newsletters or articles for the counties; 



d) liaising and working with local and national organisations and e) carrying out educational activities including indoor and field meetings, and ringing of birds, for the benefit of the membership and the wider public. Our main activities have been Outdoor meetings at various sites, these have been very popular. Monthly indoor meetings/talks from September to March. Bird ringing at various sites and ringing demonstrations at RSPB Minsmere. Construction of a Swift Tower at the Eels Foot Inn near Minsmere. (Completed 2024) The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

We are grateful for the time volunteers have spent ensuring that our activities are successful.  Without the valuable contribution of the committee, outdoor meet leaders, speakers at indoor meetings, and the ringing demonstration team, we would not have been able to achieve so much.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

There were well attended field meetings throughout the year and monthly indoor meetings during the winter months. The ringing team ringed 4307 birds over the year and the ringing demonstrations at RSPB Minsmere were a great success. There was huge progress on the Swift Tower Project at the Eels Foot Inn in Eastbridge.  The nest chamber and totem pole were completed and sufficient funds were raised to complete the project. (The official opening was on the 7[th] May 2024)

Some of our reserves are ring fenced for specific projects.  We aim to keep an operational reserve, adequate to cover any likely expenditure.

During 2023 a large proportion of our income was ring fenced grants for the Swift Tower Project.  Turnover in subsequent years is expected to be significantly lower.
