Objertives and actsvities The charity's objetts and public benefft statement CROWS is a charity working to provide or assist in the provision of facilitie5 in the interest of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation wwthin the upper Calder and Ryburn valleys in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life by working to maintain and improve public access to the countryside in the area. In setting our objectives and planning our activities. our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit and, in particular, in relation to the chariws objects. The charity's main artivttles The objectives of the organisation are achieved by: Repairing, maintaining and installing signposts, bridges, boardwalks, stiles and steps. Improving drainage, cutting back encroaching vegetation. Liaising with. and making representations to, Calderdale Council. path users, landowners. ststutory authorities and local community organisations. CROWS Achlevements and perforniance Most of our work involved jobs that had been reported by the general public. but we also worked on some long term projects= e.g. A bridge was installed to create a safe route over a large area of very wet peat bog on the causey path between Gaddings Dam and Warland Reservoir. The Todmorden Moor Geology Trail upgrades were completed and this fascinating walk is now re-published on Heart of the Pennines website. We completed the repair of steps. bridges and the crumbling edges on the popular Hebden Bridge riverside paths around Foster Dam. The ancient stone packhorse bridge at Blackshaw Head was rebuilt for future generations to enjoy. • The vtslking routes around Luddenden Valley pn)duced by the Luddenden Conservation Society have been waymarked. repaired and improved. All the stone steps were cleared and several new wooden steps were installed on the path from Heptonstall down to Midgehole. There is more to do. but we are well on the way. The paths around the Dodd NO￿ estate in Hebden Bridge were rescued from encroaching vegetation with a local plan for their continued upkeep. Two new bridges were installed over the Colden (below Egypt) and over Ramsden Clough. above Walsden. Six new finger-post5 were installed across the area. The popular riverside path at Ripponden was refurbished. Over a thousand days were worked by Voluntee￿ during the year. We have continued working three days a week in ne?rly all weathers. A detsiled account of our attivities can be seen on the regularty updated CROWS blo Risk management The Trustees have introduced and documented a risk management pro￿55 to assess business risks and have implemented systems to mitigate these risks. Internal risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures or authorisation of all transactions and projects. This also ensures consistent quality of delivery for all operational aspetts of the Charity. Procedures are in place to ensure compliance with health and safety of staff, volunteers, clients and visitors to relevant sites. These procedures are periodically reviewed to ensure that they still meetthe needs of the Charity. CROWS Financial revlew Net receipts for the year were £35.930 and net payments were £29,814. This resulted in an increase over the previous year of £6116 in cash funds. Sources of income are well spread with no reliance on any one source and controls are in place to monitor income and expenditure on a regular basis. It is the charity's policy to maintain a reserve to provide working capital in the region of £15,OCQ to fund its general activities for the year ahead.
