## **Friends of Clayton Parks**

## **Annual Report 2023/2024**

This year has seen projects and new members joining our small but active group of Volunteers. Residents of the area all keen to help sustain and keep our parks and green spaces clean and a safe space to enjoy our beautiful heritage. We have an excellent service from our District Council and Parish council. We are all custodians of the are we appreciate and Treasure.

Throughout the year 2023 to 2024 we have celebrated the Queens Platinum Jubilee with an event in Victoria Park Clayton, many people attended to share in the fun games and celebrations. We have held litter picks in different areas in howling gales and rain. Our stalwart members determined to keep Clayton Green and litter free. We have several groups that regularly litter pick different areas and spaces. Our local park is litter picked every morning by a local member. And twice per week by the district council staff. We have recruited new members at the Jubilee event, and we grow at every event and opportunity.

We have started work on the area called Tea Pot Spout. We obtained a grant from Clayton Parish Council to clear this small piece of land and make it accessible. This will give a viewpoint overlooking the valley to Thornton and the surrounding villages and communities. A glorious view what ever the weather. An ongoing project that will hopefully be ready in the next budget year.

We have plans to join Clayton Village and the Parish Council at the Christmas Lights Switch On 2024 with a lantern parade for the children and adults to create a lantern to light the way through the park to join the choir outside the village hall where the Christmas tree and the lights around the streets will be officially switched on. An event to plan and look forward to. We plan this to be an annual event in our calendar which will grow and evolve over time, to publicise and grow members and participation.

We are looking forward to our next financial year 2024/25 with energy and enthusiasm.
