Chairman’s Report 1[st] June 2023 to 31[st] May 2024

A year of ups and downs. We very sadly lost Helen in this year. I would like to pay tribute to her vision of starting the shed. I know some of you never knew her, but she did a lot for the community and the formation of this shed is the proof of this. We owe her a debt of gratitude. A lovely lady who is sorely missed by all who knew her.

Our numbers have increased yet again from 29 to 36, and hopefully will continue to do so.

I would like to thank the members for all their hard work and efforts over the last year, this a sample of what we have been doing.

The completion of the BW telephone box, now an information centre and 3 other phone boxes; the repair and repainting of the railway crossing gates; repainting of the hand pump for the BWPC; signs for a school; refurbishment of a rocking horse; work for various animal organisations, including swifts, guinea pigs and hedgehogs; various Notice Boards; and individual repairs and refurbishments brought to us by the community. Apologies if I have missed anything.

A few sheds and garages have been cleared out (at the request of the owners!) and we were most fortunate to have been given a lathe, router and table saw, as well as other very useful tools. Those that we were not able to use ourselves, have been passed on to Tools for Self Sufficiency and Home Leone

We have attended various fundraising fetes and fairs including the Eco sale, the Christmas Fair etc. Selling our wares and promoting the Shed.

We have made a variety of games which have proved very popular.

Thanks to Richard for all the barbecues he has done for us, in spite of some bad weather on occasion, not surprisingly they were always well attended; Roger for organising a very entertaining trip to the Titchfield Festival Theatre to watch a production of Men’s Shed; and Mike has organised pub evenings and attended pub quizzes.

We were very honoured in March when we were awarded the Mayor of Winchester Community Award 2024, having been proposed by the Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council.

The need to enlarge our workshop and recreation areas is ongoing.

This next year is off to anther good start with several projects already underway, and particularly the phone box restorations. Thank you to the organisers Glen and Mel plus the rest of the team.
