Report of the Trustees

For the year ended 31st March 2024

All Saints Mar Thoma Parish in Peterborough mirrors the Kingdom of God by offering solace and hope to those in need. The establishment of "All Saints Mar Thoma Church" in Peterborough was made possible by divine grace. Initially a small migrant group, it evolved into a thriving congregation on 1 Feb 2013. Today, the church accommodates over 100 families and efficiently manages prayers through 5 prayer groups.

Spiritual & Temporal Administration

Rev. Thomas George, who assumed the roles of the full time Parish Vicar and President of All Saints Mar Thoma Church in May 2023, has provided leadership and guidance, greatly benefiting the spiritual growth of the parish. For effective administration, the Parish has a General Body, and Executive Committee, Parish Organizations and Area Prayer Groups. Each organization of the Parish has its own Executive Committee and Office Bearers. The President of the General Body/Executive Committee and all Parish Organizations and Prayer Group is the Parish Vicar Rev Thomas George.

Parish Worship Services and Events

The Holy Communion services were conducted every Sunday, while Divine services were reserved for 5th Sundays. Great Lent Worship Services, including Passion Week, lasted for 50 days and were held either at the Church or members' homes. Special services such as Easter Sunday, Maundy Thursday Holy Qurbana, and Good Friday Service took place at the church. Other events included the First Holy Communion and Episcopal visit on June 18th, 2023, and a dedication prayer for students at the beginning of the academic year. Cultural day and Onam celebration was held on Sep 16th, 2023. Family Sunday was observed on October 22nd, 2023, along with the Harvest Festival and auction of produce on September 24th, 2023. A Christmas Carol event occurred on December 16th, 2023, with various programs and a Holy Qurbana on Christmas day. The Zonal Christmas carol service was held at the church on Dec 26, 2023, which was attended by many parishes in the Zone. The Watch Night Service and the year-end Thanksgiving was held on December 31st, 2023. The Parish Sports and Games Day was celebrated on 30 Dec 2023 and 27 of January 2024. Additionally, Parish Day and Edavaka Convention took place on February 4th and 2nd-3rd, 2023, respectively.

Area Prayer Group Meetings: The Parish has five prayer groups, viz., Peterborough A, Peterborough B, Cambridge – Bury, Kettering – Corby, and Kings Lynn – Boston. Nottingham prayer group became a congregation with effect from 01 Jan 2024. Area Prayer group meetings are conducted monthly at members' residences, with attendance from respective area members engaging in bible study, intercessory prayer, and messages. The prayer groups conducted house to house carolling in each area.

Edavaka (Parish) Mission: Under the guidance of the Parish Mission, various prayer sessions such as Cottage Prayer, Fasting Prayer, Lenten Prayer with Sandhya Namaskaram, and Community Bible Study were conducted. Fasting Prayer occurs monthly in households, while Community Bible Study takes place weekly at the Parsonage or Church. Special events like the Lenten Prayer for peace in Manipur, the Annual Bible Convention (22-24 Sep), and the Yeldo Lent during Christmas are also organized by the Parish Mission. Edavaka Mission Sunday was observed on 01 Oct 2023. Additionally, Year-Ending Thanks Giving and Fasting Prayer, as well as Three Days Lent, and charitable and fund-raising projects such as Light to Life, supporting an evangelist, and home for the homeless, food sale are part of the spiritual and charitable activities led by the Parish Mission throughout the year.

Sevika Sangham : Prayer meetings and chain prayer, including a 24-hour chain prayer held on every 3rd Thursday with all prayer requests. Sevika Sangham Day, observed on the 10th of September. In addition, members engaged in various activities such as food sales during events like the Harvest festival and parish sports programmes, and actively participated in zonal chain prayers and continue the hospitality ministry. Additionally, charitable activities are undertaken by the organization to help those who are in need.

Youth Fellowship : The Youth fellowship held weekly meetings, general body, and committee meetings to study the word of God and grow spiritually. They engaged in fellowship, prayer, Bible study, discussion, and fun activities, including participating in zonal events like Youth conferences and sports tournaments. Fruitful discussions were conducted, and programs were successfully completed. Youth Sunday was observed on 15 Oct 2023. Additionally, the youths engaged in charity fundraising through a food stall, sold calendars, and registered 74 members aged between 13 to 35 years old.

Choir: The Parish choir, consisting of 11 males and 20 females, is affiliated with the Department of Sacred Music and Communications. They regularly gather to rehearse songs for the Parish worship service and performed a special song during Choir Sunday on June 16, 2023. In addition to local events, the choir took part in the UKEurope Zone virtual choir program, broadcasted on Nov 10, 2023. They also contributed carols to the church's Christmas carol service on Dec 16, 2023, and the Zonal Christmas carol service on Dec 26, 2023, where they sang two songs.

Sunday School: The Parish Sunday School accommodates 137 children from Nursery to Young Adults. The Sunday school schedule includes a worship session followed by classes, with online options available on 2nd and 4th Sundays. A team of 17 dedicated teachers, upholds the school's motto of bringing everyone to Jesus. The school emphasizes biblical teachings, in line with Proverbs 22:6, to instill faith in the children. Various events such as student and teachers’ dedications, teachers retreat, Sunday school anniversary, and sports and talent celebrations are organized to enhance the spiritual growth and engagement of the students.

Charitable Incorporated Organisation : The church has gone through a smooth transition into CIO legal structure with effect from 1st April 2023. Under the new charity number 1201466, new bank account was used for all transactions. The old bank account and the old charity 1157144 has been closed through the resolutions agreed by the committee.

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024 set out on pages five to thirteen.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act)) and that an independent examination is required.

Basis of the independent examiner’s report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view ‘ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statements below.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2015)’, Financial Reporting Standard 102 ‘The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland'EFA, the and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings, they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Tangible fixed assets

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over its estimated useful life.

Freehold property - not provided Fixtures and fittings - 15% on reducing balance basis Motor Vehicle - 20% on reducing balance basis

The trustees have carried out a full impairment review in accordance with FRS 102, as a result of which no depreciation charge is made in respect of Freehold Property on the ground that the estimated residual value is not materially different from its carrying value in the Balance Sheet.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

There were no trustees' remuneration or other benefits for the year ended 31 March 2024 other than the ministerial stipend and other related living expenses paid to the vicar for his pastoral duties.

5. INVESTMENT POLICY

The trustees have the power to transfer money from the current account to a deposit account to maximise the income received from interest.

6. RISK MANAGEMENT

The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, in particular those related to it's operations, personnel and finances, and are satisfied that the systems are in place to mitigate our exposure to major risks. The trustees to ensure that they still meet the needs of the charity periodically review these procedures.
