Trustees, Annual Report for the period From 29/12/2022 period start date to Abril 2024 period end date Charity name: Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom Charity registration number: 1201463 The Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom main objectives, is to relieve financial hardship through the provision of grants, for the benefit of the residents throughout England and Wales without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinion by working together with residents and local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. Advancing Angolan culture and heritage for the public benefit as well as increasing knowledge and understanding of all aspect of Angolan culture and the way of life, have also been a part of our main objectives. During this first year, working and providing services for the public benefit, has been a challenge when funds are taken into consideration. Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom has continued and maintained to offer restricted services, that are within the Charity's main objectives, focusing for time being mainly on Advocacy and Supplementary Education, until the organisation's finance becomes stable. It has been expected that Charity like the Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom, in its first year would in some cases, encounter difficulties in carrying out its activities in more effective way, due to lack of experience. However, in order to ensure that services have been conducted in best way and accordingly, some advisors that work within the Charity sector organisations, pinpointed some weakness within the Charity, in regard to its performance when it applies to fundraising strategies. On the other hand, the Trustees and Members of the Union of Angolan in the United Kingdom, believe that the first year of the
Charity's existence, has helped to identify and lay out foundations which will eventually prevail in near future. Being consistent with the main objectlves, has been the maln aim. However, throughout the year the Charity has not been able to achieve its main target. The main source of funds has been coming from our members as well as from the donations that we receive from the events that we normally organise. In contrast, there have been a lot of adherences of new members joining the Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom which shows the hard work that all the members have put into practice. Trustees have kept monitoring the performance of the income stream of the charity, during this difficult period. Although the Charity was not successful as we had expected in acquiring funds from some organisations, the contributions that the Charity have been receiving from our members, have maintained the Charity intact and functionable. Fundraising strategies in any charity organisation is vital. In order for the Charity to accomplish its objectives in whole, a team comprised by: A Project Manager, an accountant and some trustees and nominated members, have been appointed for the management of the fundraising. As a result, the lottery Community Fund, have approved our 12 months project starting from August, entitled (Skills & Empowerment) and we have been awarded £14149 which will be outlined in our next year report. The project objectives, is to inspire young people, integrate young people into society, cultivate self-worth, improving self-esteem and CV writing and interviews skills. Trustees and members meetings have been conducted via social media like: Zoom and WhatsApp and there are no plans to be changed. However, it might be reviewed at the next year general meeting. The financial advisor for our Charity, recommended that the financial year records have to be displayed to the public for the sake of transparency purposes. Therefore, having the charity financial record available for everyone, can also have a positive impact on funds and donations. Union of Angolans in the United Kingdom Charity reporting has been overdue for at least two months. However, the Charity Commission Annual Return . question guide dated on 8 of March 2023, states that Charity Incorporated (CIOS) financial period can vary from 6 to 18 months. Furthermore, the Charity Commission Trustees welcome package, has also advised the Union of
Angolans in the United Kingdom Charrty, that as a new established Charity, we would submit our annual report and Receipts and payments accounts within 18 months. Therefore, we would argije that we are not13te by 62 days. but by one week.
