The Parochial Church Council {PCC} of the Ecclesiastical Parish of St la, St Ives (Diocese of Trurol is a
registered charity Inumber 12014381- It is known a5 St la Of St Ives PCC and manages the day to day
working of St la Parish Church in St Ive>
St la is one of two churches in the St Ives Anglican Benefi￿ and works closely with its sister church.
St John's in-the-fields, to fulfil its aims and purposes.
Aims and Purpose5
Our primary purpose as a church is the promotion of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according
to the dortrines and practices of the Church of England. Our main charitable purpose is therefore
the advancement of religion. The PCC is required by the Parochial Church IPowersl Measure 1956 to
co- operate with the parish priest (vicar} in promoting in the parish the whole mission of the church,
pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.
The parish church of St Ives is dedicated to St la. and is part of the Diocese of Truro wtthin the
Church of Er7gland. It is a grade I listed Medieval church with a capactty of 300. The PCC has
maintenance responsibilities for this church and thereby preserves this historic building for fut¥Jre
generations.
The PCC is also specifically responsible for the maintenance of number 5 and 6 Redfern Court, St
Andre￿S Street, St Ives.
Objectives and Activities
In carrying out their ￿spOnSibl[1t1e5. the members of the PCC have had regard to the Charity
Commission's guidance on public benefft. As well as having an active church membership, St la is
Used by the community for key events, with special services held throughout the year. such a5 the
annual Feast Service, and the Remembrance Day service. Special services are also held at Easter and
Christmas. which many extra viswtors and locals attend. The church also provides a focus for local
people at key times in their lives, including baptisms, weddings and funerals.
The worship at St la 15 primarity in the Anglo-catholic tradition. This complements the worship on
offer at our sister church. St John's in-th*fields. which offets contemporary service5 in the low-
church, Evangelical tradition. The regular Servi￿ include said and sung weekty Communion services
and regular evening services. The￿ a￿ also services on the occasion of major Christian festivals and
these are often well4ttended by a wide range of people.
We seek to ensure that the church building is open and staffed for as much of the week as possible.
This is made possible by both a committed core of volunteers and through the café that we run in
the garden or inside the church. We also provide regular midweek groups such as Christian
Meditation. Art and Spirttuality, Choir Rehearsals. and more informal worship evenings.
Alongside our spiritual activrties the church runs a pro8ramme of events enjoyed by many of our
local community and by visltors to St Ives. These events include live music. Iwe theatre. and our
annual Christmas Market. 'Fair Mo..
The PCC has decided to make grants to other organisations from income across the year. These
organisations should altgn with our own objertives but normally will be working in a different or
across a wider geographical area. They will often be involved in providing relief in situations of
extreme poverty or disaster. The PCC aims to make grants amountin8 to a minimum of £I,c￿ each
year.

StIa.Stl￿ Parish Reporr zoza
Achievements and Perfornwn
The Sunday worship at St la continues to attract a committed core of regular member5. augmented
by regular and occasional visitors. especially during the summer months. There are challenges for
the church by virtue of Èts placement in the middle of a parish with few permanent residents and
with limited and expensive parking locally- However. its heritage and setting compensate for some
of these disadvantages and the church remains very popular with vi51tors. Recent growth of the
regular congregation has come primari￿ through the choir and the musical tradition of the church is
of a high standard. The voluntary teams on a Sunday morning (the choir, the servers, the
sidespeople. and the thurchwardensl make the services possible but also provide meaninEful
opportunities for service for our congregants.
Our other events, café. and large seivices see many thousands of people coming through the church
each year for reasons other than worship. This allow5 many to make use of the beautiful building
and fosters a deeper connection between St la and the wider community.
By keeping the church open throughout the year there has been opportunity for local residents and
visitors to St Ives to come into the building and to appreciate it as a place of peace. quiet prayer, and
rich history.
Financial Review
The financial performance for the year is as outlined in the attached accounts and has been subject
to a review by the Independent Examiner.
Total receipts were £180.99212022: £219.5751 and totsl payments were £171.52512022: £257.094
Ileaving a surplus for the year of £19,467). Payments included significant amounts toward the
fundraising actNlties Ithe café and Fair Mo in particularl and also for the MMF1£46,9671-
The overall operatinE Position is considered to be acceptable and viable.
Turnover was significant again in the year reflecting the operation of the café lalthough the summer
trading of that moved into a separate trading subsidiary during the year), September Festival
concerts, and donations received against the employment of our administrative team.
The level of reserves currentty held by St la is at a historic high due to the Sale of the fom)er Parish
Rooms Ithe Sunday School buildinEI and donations for salaried posts. There is an active project to
begin to invest some of this money into the maintenance and development of the chtjrch building to
better allow us to continue and grow our mission and ministry including works to make the church
more accessible. The minimum level of reserves will be reviewed when a decision is made on the
scope and cost of this project.
At year end the PCC had £55,019 of free cash in hand. There is E137.617 held a5 restrirted reserves,
restoration furbds and in escrow from donations against future salary payments. A further £313,783
is held as restricted funds for redevelopment of the church following the historic sale of the former
parish rooms
The PCC operates a5 a Eoing concern.

Structure. Govemance and Managernent
St la PCC is an unincorporated charity- The method of appointment of PCC members (who are the
trnstees of the charity) is set out in the Church Representation Rule5. All Church attendees are
encouraged to register on the electoral roll and stand for election to the PCC. PCC members are
required to attend safeguarding training ènd to underEO a DBS check. They are a150 encouraged to
attend relevant training days offered by the Diocese of Truro.
In 2023 the PCC had severdl employees- a Business Manager Ifull-timel, a café manager180% full-
timel. as well as some temporary café staff, a Youth and Children's Worker Ipart-timel, and
administrator Ipart-timel. and a Deanery Administrntor Ipart-time and employed on behalf of
Penwith Deanery. There was also a regular cleaner and Eardener Iself-employed). The Reverend
Keiren Morwood, has continued to work wrthin the benefi￿ as a self-supporting Assistant Minister.
Dr Andrew Hicks is li￿nsed to St la as a Lay Reader.
Whilst the Youth and Children's Worker is employed at St la. most of her work has taken place at St
John's in-the-field5. This demonstrates the close partnership and cooperation between the churches
in the benefice.
The PCC met six times in 2023. In between those meetings the churchwardens and treasurer met
regularly with the vicar and the Business Manager. Time critical decisions were made by circulation
or through the standing committee.
