## Habibti Liverpool Trustees’ Annual Report

## **Reporting period**

From: April 2024 To: March 2025

## **Charity details**

Charity name: Habibti Liverpool Registered charity number: 1201401 Principal address: 28 Rutland Avenue, Liverpool L17 2AF

## **Objectives and Activities**

## **Charitable purposes**

The relief of those in need by reason of ill health, financial hardship or other social or economic disadvantage in Liverpool, by providing donated goods to families and community groups in need, in particular but not limited to food, clothes and household goods; and

To preserve and protect good health for the public benefit, in particular but not limited to providing equipment, medicine and financial support to pay healthcare staff at the hospital in Sana’a, Yemen.

## **Main activities**

_Summarise the main activities carried out during the year to further these aims._ Collection of financial donations. Our volunteers and supporters raised funds by: organising fashion shows, Christmas card amnesties to raise money, jumping out of planes, running women’s circles, teaching and awareness sessions in Ramadan, DJing, shaving their hair, jumping in the dock, a Snowdown marathon, a boxer donating proceeds, carol singing, children and adults birthday – donations instead of presents, organising parties. Toro’s restaurant donated their proceeds from one night’s earnings.

## **Public benefit**

The trustees confirm we have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

## **Achievements and Performance**

In June, 2024, Najla delivered Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine’s prestigious Leverhulme Lecture as part of our 125th anniversary public lecture series. You can watch her lecture in full by visiting: _**Inspirational Yemeni paediatrician Professor Najla Al-Sonboli returns to Liverpool for prestigious Leverhulme Lecture | LSTM**_ . The lecture demonstrates the impact of her and Nasher’s work in conflict and scarcity and how they have innovated with limited resources to promote health equity for the most vulnerable. The lecture includes some distressing images. There are references to war and conflict with first hand experiences of illness and trauma which are discussed. For many people in the community this was the first time they met Najla and Nasher, who they knew so much about and had fundraised for, and it was an emotional time of connection.

Medical equipment was donated from Alderhey Children’s Hospital and we have paid for it to reach Yemen – this included tubes for intubation, cannulas. One volunteer collected clothes, formula and nappies and sent these to Al-Sabeen hospital where they were received with great joy.

## **Financial Review**

## **Financial position**

_Provide a summary of the charity’s finances at the end of the year._

We have again exceeded our target for donations sent to Yemen, with a total of £39980 sent over the period. This was funded by incoming donation totalling £39056.80 and small sales of £3296.37. We made an overall surplus over the period of £1871.62 and maintained our reserve cash in the bank at over £6000 throughout, ending the period with £8978.60 in the bank.

## **Reserves**

Policy on holding reserves (if applicable): We try to balance the urgent needs of the hospital with our knowledge of expected income over the next period. We aim to retain small reserves to allow up to 3 months’ transfers, equivalent to a total of £6000.

Amount of reserves held: £8978.60
