OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The objectives of the charity are to promote the mental, physical and moral development of young people and to provide opportunities for them to develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals.
Significant activities
The organisation will work with under-privileged young people, including
(a) care leavers
- (b) those caught up in gang culture or at risk from drugs or alcohol addiction (c) refugees.
Each group of young people will take part in a programme designed to improve their skills and capabilities and develop their self-confidence so that they can move on to apprenticeships, employment or further education.
Through the programme:
-
1 The young people will have the opportunity to gain work experience on a rotational basis in a range ofdifferent types of work, such as woodwork, printing, baking, tailoring, metalwork, leatherwork, film radioand video. It is intended that some of these will be through activities run by the organisation and that otherwork experience opportunities will be provided through businesses that rent space in the building leasedto the organisation. If they settle into a specific interest, the option of apprenticeships will be discussedwith them. They will also be signposted to other organisations that provide further skills training oreducational opportunities.
-
2 The young people will have the opportunity to develop life skills such as money-management and budgeting.
-
3 They will be provided with one-to-one mentoring support. This mentoring will continue after they leave the programme.
-
4 They will learn about healthy living and be able to participate in activities that promote physical and mental health, such as exercise classes and meditation.
Public benefit
The work of the organisation will focus on young people who have slipped through the cracks of the education and social system and who are not engaging in apprenticeships, further education or employment. Many of these young people are at risk of falling into addiction or becoming involved in criminal activities.
