## **Trustee Annual Report**

## 1. Introduction & Origins

Starting a charity from nothing is neither easy nor quick. People's Charity was formed from a simple desire to help others, but with no name recognition, branding, or visibility, the early days involved an enormous learning curve. Everything had to be built from scratch - not just forms and registration, but learning governance, safeguarding, compliance, and policies. There was no handbook or shortcut. Everything had to be learned along the way, and the significant amount of information and responsibility involved made it a truly intense process.

## 2. Activities & Community Impact

Despite all the challenges, the charity has made a real difference. Over the reporting period, we were able to signpost and assist 276 people, and provided more than 240 food and essential needs parcels to those struggling. We also organised a donation of toys and gifts to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd NHS Children's Ward for Christmas, each accompanied by a handwritten letter to lift the spirits of the children. Though small in scale, the charity's work has had a deep personal impact on those we reached.

## 3. Governance & Risk

As a newly registered charity, ensuring proper governance was critical. Trustees were appointed and engaged in developing and overseeing the charity's early processes. We implemented clear procedures for safeguarding, signposting, and financial accountability. With GDPR and ethical conduct front of mind, we also began developing policies to protect data, manage risks, and operate safely and transparently - all essential foundations for building trust.

## 4. Operational Challenges & Learning

One of the biggest hurdles has been juggling charity work with other life and employment commitments. As a part-time grassroots charity, we've faced ongoing financial constraints and limited public awareness. Fundraising proved difficult due to the sheer number of other causes operating locally and nationally. Nevertheless, we persisted - from setting up a website and managing online sales, to operating from our charity unit, distributing parcels, and responding to service users. Every small success has come through enormous personal effort.

## 5. Vision & Sustainability

We are realistic about our current scale, but ambitious in heart. We know there is much more work to do. In the long term, we aim to raise awareness, increase fundraising capacity, and expand our support services. We understand the need to keep improving governance, reporting, and impact tracking. What drives us is not numbers, but people - we will be here as long as there are people in need of a helping hand, and our charity can garner the support needed to extend that hand.

## 6. Closing Reflection

What we've achieved so far is just the beginning. This journey has required tenacity, creativity, and sacrifice - but it has also been rewarding beyond words. Helping our first service user made it all worth it. Every person helped, every meal delivered, every kind word offered - it all matters. People's Charity remains committed to growing with purpose, and we thank all those who have supported us in getting this far. The road ahead is long, but the heart behind it is strong.
