The objective of the charity is to provide affordable residential accommodation for elderly people in need who have a link with Canterbury. The charity provides independent flats or cottages occupied at low rents. The accommodation is provided at St John's Hospital, Northgate, Canterbury (31 places), the other at St Nicholas' Hospital, Harbledown, Canterbury (10 places).

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Are (1) The Relief Of Poverty By The Provision Of Accommodation In The Form Of Almshouses For Beneficiaries;(2) Income Not Applied For Object (1) May Be Applied For Such Charitable Purposes For The Benefit Of The Indwellers Resident In The Almshouses As The Trustees Decide;(3) Income Not Applied For Objects (1) And (2) May Be Applied For The Relief Of Poverty Amongst Beneficiaries Who Are Not Resident In The Almshouses.(4) Income Not Applied For Objects (1), (2) Or (3) May Be Applied For Such Other Charitable Purposes In The Area Of Benefit As The Trustees May Decide.
