Llantrisant Male Choir Trustee’s Annual Return 2024

The trustees are pleased to present their second annual report, together with the consolidated financial statements.

Charity status, as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) was gained on 15[th] December 2022 with the Charity No 1201350.

10 initial trustees were elected, comprising of 7 organisation members and 3 non-chorister trustees.

This year we have increased our trustee numbers to 11 with the election of, First Tenor Section Representative, Mr Colin Williams.

All other trustees retained their role.

These people are responsible for the management of our organisation, in compliance with our Charity Governing document.

The choir would particularly like to thank the 3 non-chorister trustees, for giving their time and specialist skills to the choir in this respect.

Moving forward it is our objective to consolidate our charity status and to claim any financial assistance from said status.

To this end we have registered our Charity with His Majesties Revenue & Customs and we have been formally accepted for charity tax status.

Chair’s Report

CHAIRMANS REPORT for Trustees Annual Report 2024

I would like to start, my report, by extending my gratitude to all our Trustees, whose unwavering dedication, innovation, and hard work throughout 2024/2025 have been truly inspiring.

To every Chorister, as your commitment is at the core of our choir’s success.

And a special note of thanks goes to our exceptional Music Team. A big thank you to Matthew Nash, our brilliant Musical Director, and to our very talented accompanists, Jane Coles and Llinos Jones, for your outstanding contributions.

I would also like to welcome the 23 new members that have joined our choir this year and applaud the efforts of our recruiting team, led by Trustee Jeff Price.

We have performed at a total 34 events 2024/2025: Concerts 8; Weddings 6; Corporate 4; Social 12; Funerals 4.

Highlights Included:

St David’s Concert 2024: The Parish Church, Llantrisant. The concert was compared by Welsh actor Ifan Huw Dafydd who has since joined the choir as a member of the bass section. Also performing for the first time with the choir was guest soloist soprano, Esther Bizak.

Talking Pictures, Savoy Theatre, Monmouth: We were welcomed by a large audience, many of whom had never experienced the magic of a traditional Welsh Male choir. The event was a resounding success with great feedback. Congratulations and thanks to Ronnie Moore for his work in making this event happen.

Y Pant School, Pontyclun: A three Choirs Concert took place and included Bridgend Tabernacle & Ogmore Community choir.

Talgarth M V C: In reciprocation of our previous joint concert at home with Talgarth, we travelled by coach to Powys, Mid Wales and held a successful joint concert with the Talgarth choir.

Revolution Bar Cardiff: A second visit to perform at this venue following an invitation from the Welsh Rugby Union. We received much pre-match support and appreciation from the many Wales and Australian supporters.

Cardiff Airport: We performed for the opening of the revamped departure lounge. An interesting corporate event for us and much to the surprise of outgoing holiday makers.

Wedding Highlights Included:

Kin House, Chippenham; Canonteign Falls, Exeter: Canada Lakes, Cardiff.

Choir & Community Highlights Included:

Summer Banquet, Castle Green: Held in a marquee on Llantrisant Castle green, June 2024 - a resounding success, led by Trustee, Colin Williams, which raised £2500 for Velindre Hospital Charity.

Christmas Singalongs: A busy festive period in amongst our local community which included singing at several local public houses and of course not forgetting De Clare Lodge in Cowbridge where once again we received a very warm welcome.

Our Purposes and Activities

Our Purposes and Activities

The objectives of the CIO are: -

The study, practice and advancement of choral music, one of Wales’ leading forms of musical traditions, fostering a culture of musical appreciation throughout communities through public performances by choristers of the Llantrisant Male Choir.

The vision that shapes our annual activities remains the promotion, knowledge and appreciation of choral music, with emphasis on Welsh choral music. The charity also aims at contributing to the quality of life of the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf community through the provision of entertaining public performances.

When compiling our performance calendar, the trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, including the guidance on public benefit and fee charging. To this end we have considered the choir’s accessibility to those on low incomes and have provided low-cost concerts and also several free concerts in our locality.

Many of these free concerts are our opportunity to support other local charities and to foster new community relationships.

Our organisations income relies on member’s subscriptions, grants and fees from private and corporate events to cover our operating costs. No members of the organisation receive any renumeration apart from expenses incurred.

The strategies employed to achieve our charity’s aims and objectives are to:

Present a diverse repertoire of choral music for the enjoyment and education of our local community;

Offer opportunities for members of our community to get involved in music and explore their own creativity.

Provide opportunities for amateur artists to develop and to provide a vehicle for young artists to showcase their talents alongside us.

To celebrate diversity of cultures, in our society, by performing to and with artists of different cultural backgrounds.

By taking our organisation out on tour, both home and abroad, to promote Welsh choral music to new audiences.

Putting these strategies into place we have three main areas of activity which are: concerts, charitable events, private functions.

Our programme of activities described below focus very much on delivering choral music to our local community and to encourage all within our community to engage with our activities be it in attendance or membership. We aim to provide music for the enjoyment of all ages, form primary school performances through to entertaining at local residential care homes.
