and visit, and feel completeLy at home here.
What Trakes this pLace speciol are its liuing stones.. a u(bTont communiLy of
ordinary people seTuing an extraordinary God. A pLace here authentic
reLationships are formed and nurtured. A place where heorts are anchored in the
fuLLness of Christ and believers ore mobiLised for others to encounter the liuing
God. This is family.
Here, at ALL Soints, Lue welcorne people of aLI Christian traditions as weLL as people
of other foiths and people of little or no faith. We are committed to the personaL
and spiritual deuelopment of aLL who worship here because we are folloluers of
Jesus Christ.

The
AnnuaL
Report
for
any
organisation is alujays retrospectiue, it
glues a backujards gLance at what has
been. There is much in the 2023 Report
from which we can usefuLLy Learn - as
we moue forward, and I commend the
report for a cLoseT reading and l add
my gratefuL thanks for the many
peopLe who haue heLped to make so
much happen at, in and through ALL
Saints Church.
We need to ceLebrate too that vje haue
consoLidated our euening seruice and
Spanish-speaking ministries. These
haue continued to grow. SLOWLY a
smaLL core of Leaders is forming. Our
Spanish-speaking ministries are part
of the whoLe. We don't haue two
congregations, but one, UJLth two
seruices, one in EngLish in the Morning
and one in Spanish in the euening.
Saint PauL often uses the anaLogy of
the Church as the Body of Christ.
Owning this anaLogy, we couLd say,
that here at AIL Saints, we are, as if it
were, the Lungs, which is both doubLe
but a single organ, a part of the whoLe
Body with its own and unique organic
pLace in it.
We haue many things to ceLebrate. Fr
Jon Fox arTLued in JULY 2023 to serve
his titLe among us. Fr Jon has
generously shared with us his gifts and
he has uery quickLy become part of the
church famiLy. Fr Jon's sacramentaL
ministry
at the Eucharist
and
Baptisms, has been more uisibLe, but he
aLso undertakes a number of Less
uisibLe pastoraL care ministries, such as
home communions, home uisits or
accompaniment. We are aLso gratefuL
for his heLp with the Youth Group, and
beginning seueral initiatiues, such as a
coLLaboration support ujith our church
schooL, ALL Saints, OUT monthLy church
famiLy Lunch or a gardening group. We
look forward to his continuing ministry
among us.
Baptisms haue continue to be a strong
part of our ministry to those within
and beyond our doors. The number of
Baptisms in 2023 has been aboue
auerage in comparison to the rest of
the Church of EngLand. Houjeuer,

We wouLd Like to begin our report by offering our warmest thanks to our
Sidesmen, (WeLcomers) Mandy Harris and SiLas. Part of the roLe of a Sidesman in
a Parish Church is to perform duties on behaLf of the Churchwardens, to enabLe
seruices to run smoothLy and effectiveLy. We are most gratefuL for their
dedicatLOn.
We offer our warmest thanks to our CLerk of Works, Mike Hedges. ALI Parish
Churches are required to haue Quinquennial Inspections which are conducted by
the Church Inspecting Architect. Our Inspecting Church Architect is Mr. NichoLas
Weedon of HansLip & Co. FolLoLuing the inspection comprising, of no stone being
Left unturned, a fuLL report is presented to the ParochiaL Church CounciL {PCC}
and the head of the Diocesan Advisory Committee. We are extremeLy gratefuL to
Mike for bringing to fruition the urgent ujorks Listed in the most recent report.
This takes a great deaL of time and due diLigence, for ujhich we are gratefuL. You
iuiLL find ujithin the APCM report, a ujritten piece from Mike addressing the works
compLeted during this past year.
During the course of each month we are gratefuL for the help we receiue from a
dedicated number of peopLe who keep the Church cLean and tidy. The main
cLean takes pLace on the 1st Saturday of each month. If you wouLd Like to glue a
hand on tlie first Saturday of the rnOnt pLease do just pop aLong at 10:30am.

We haue been incredibLy gratefuL to so many of you in the graciousness you
dispLayed by not compLaining of the coLd and cheerfuLLy 'just getting on ujith it,
and continuing to worship here week in and week out, during the coLdest and
wettest of the winter months. Thank you.

This past year has certainLy presented us with chaLLenges in finding ways to
maintain the buiLding and surrounding Churchyard. We off er OUT deepest thanks
and Loue, to Father Antonio for his support, his caLm approach, and his warm
encouragement. May God continue to richLy BLess him and guide him.
'Thank you, to aLL of you ujho quietLy and effectiueLy heLp us in so many ujays. We
haue been greatLy encouraged in the past few weeks by more members of our
Church FamiLy coming forward to help in caring for our pLace of worship to truly
reflect the GLory of God.
Works
Works CompLeted During the Year 2023: Masonry improuement works to the
Vestry roof. the South and West doors were made good and repainted,. a new
fire escape ujas instaLLed to the North door.; the door itseLf and surrounding
masonry was made good and repainted. Repairs were made to the gaLe ends of
the Lady ChapeL roof. Gutters and guLLeys were cleared. The roofs are routineLy
inspected and tiLes TepLaced/ Tepositioned as necessary. The Lining on the South
side gutter lias been repLaced. Discrete ujorks were necessary foLLouJing storm-
damage to the roofs, during the recent incLement weather.
PLanned Workts: Further repairs are planned to the Church roof, a hopper on the
Tower WILL require cLeaning, any works to action the recommendations of the
QuinquenniaL Report WILL begin.
Long -Term PLanning: the wooden fLoor in the entrance Lobby is in a poor state of
repair and wiLL require repLacing, areas of the Church's waLLs in the Naue
currentLy require redecoration, there is a need to clean the higher sections of the
intemaL waLLs of the naue, more substantiaL ujorks on the Cliurch roofs uJiLL be
required in the Long-term.

PCC Secretary
It's been another busy year ujith positiue changes and new mission initiatiues
introduced such as the Youth Group and the re-introduction of Communion in
two kinds (both bread and wine). There haue aLso been roLe changes in the PCC
as foLLows:
Mike Hedges did not stand for Te-eLection as Churchwarden when his tern
came to a cLose in 2023. Howeuer, he is happy to continue supporting the
Mission of ALL Saints in other capacities, such as supporting the
Churchujardens ujith the ouersight of the BuiLding and RentaLs. He has stayed
on the PCC as CLerk of Works. The PCC expressed their thanks to Mike for aLL
his hard ujork as Churchwarden. Bron Panter was eLected as the neuj
Churchwarden and our new Lay-vice Chair is Jonas Wontumi.
FoLLowing Brenda Coop's resignation, Chris Chikujendu was appointed our
new Treasurer in May. The PCC expressed theLT gratltude for Brenda's 19
years of dedicated seruice as Treasurer.
We weLcomed Fr Jon Fox who joined us as Curate. He was ordained on 24th
June and he joined us for the first time at Sunday seruice 25th June. Fr Jon
has been heLping in the schooL 1 day per week. He Led the August bank hoLiday
weekend churchyard cLean up and barbecue for those who uoLunteered to
heLp. It ujas a pLeasure to see what a great job that eueryone done and houj
good the churchyard Looked.
The PCC agreed that uje should resume offering communion in tujo kinds, this
ujas introduced on Sunday 4 June when the Archdeacon Led the seruice. Fr
Antonio drew up a List of chaLice bearers (Eucharistic Ministers) to assist VJLth
this. There were 21 children from the schooL and 3 from the Spanish
congregation admitted to HOLY Communion on 11th June and they received the
bread and wine.
On the 5th JULY, Martyn Harris ceLebrated 64 years as a choir member. Fr
Antonio gaue our thanks to Martyn for his dedicated seTuice and for his heLp
LIJLtFI the choir more recentLy. We recruited a neuj organist in September, Luis
VaLLes. He Liues LocaLLy and he teaches music at Westminster City SchooL.

Father Antonio continues to do a
great job of designing LeafLets to
pubLicise euents and seruices,
whiLe sauing on costs. This now
incLudes our service bookLets that
used to be the red sheets. Fr
Antonio has aLso produced a
heLpfuL funeraL bookLet.
We know that it u)as an incredibly
chaLlenging time. The PCC aLso
recognizes the commitment and
support
shown
by
the
congregation
you were aLI
wonderfuL
in
continuing to
attend seruices in the absence of
heating. The Youth Group met for
the first time on 28th January
2024 and tFiis is off to a good
start, in coLLaboration with St.
Lukes, Woodside, St Marks and
HOLY Innocents. SmaLL Saints
Sunday SchooL is popuLar with
sometimes as many as 15
chiLdren attending. Both Irene
and Ruth Lead these sessions and
they haue been suppLied with
books and otlier materials to aid
this important work.
This year the Open House euent
in September Led by Mandy and
Martyn Harris, was Linked with
the Art Exhibition Led by Tim
Wright. The Art Exhibition began
the weekend before the Open
House euent, houjeuer, joining tlie
two euents on the foLLowing
weekend proued to be a great
success ujith ouer 250 people
attending both. We were asked
by Bishop Rosemarie MaLLett to
send acoLytes for the seruice at
Southwark CathedraL Saturday 7
October,

History Month. Our acoLytes
Patrick, EmmanueL, AnneLiese
and EmmanuelLa (supported by
Maureen)
were
superb
ambassadors for ALL Saints, and
receiued Lots of positiue feedback
for ajob uJeLL done.
We look forward to the rest of
2024, in supporting Fr Antonio to
buiLd
on
current
mission
initiatiues and to deueLoping new
ones.

hard to ensure that aLI aspects of
the smooth running of the church
is maintained. The PCC extends

the boiler stopped u)orking to
sort things out.

l Mission Reports
SmaLL Saints
SmaLL Saints ujas re-estabLished in September 2023, run by Ruth and Irene, and
supported by some mothers in the churclL There are on auerage 12 chiLdren a
ujeek with ages ranging from 4-12 years. The group meets in the Lobby of the
main church. Our aim is to teach the chiLdren the character of God and his Loue
through reading bibLe stories about parabLes and Learning about significant days
and seasons in the Christian caLendor such as Lent, Aduent, and Christmas.
Learning and teaching take place through actiuities such as quizzes, crossword,
uJordseaTches, arts and crafts. The church has prouided enough resources and
materiaL.
ALthough attendance to SmaLI Saints is not high, it LS Stable with about 6 TeguLar
members on any giuen Sunday. The chiLdren enjoy this time of feLLowship
together and are encouraged to come euery ujeek.
UnfortunateLy, uje are affected by the Lack of space in the Lobby to spLit the
chiLdren into groups to enabLe us to engage them in age-appropriate actiuities.
The young ones often get bored and distract the oLder ones while Lessons are
ongoing. SecondLy, there are onLy two uoLunteers nouj which makes it quite
chaLlenging to manage the group and does not alLow the group to function
properLy if one of us must take time off. With the Lack of uolunteers, hoLding
SmaLL Saints euery Sunday creates puts uoLunteers under immense pressure.
There is also noise interference from the main church when preaching is going
on.

SmaLL Saints
ALL-Saints Sunday schooL opened in October 2022 after seueraL discussions Led
by Father Antonio Fuerte. This was after a Very Long period without the church
hauing a running Sunday schooL. We receiued tremendous support and are
gratefuL to so many of our church friends ujho supported us in this ministry.
Your guidance, suggestions, resources and keeping us mouing forward in an
orderLy way. are inuaLuabLe. You have aLL contributed to the Sunday schooL
reuiuaL and maintenance.
The dispLay of the box and coLoring penciLs make the area where the Sunday
schooL is heLd uery attractiue and weLcoming, that the children are naturaLLy
drawn to this area. They waLked in their short steps, their eyes to the right,
focusing on the dispLay on the table. As a resuLt, in the first few weeks of
starting the schooL the number chiLdren sharpLy increased from 4 to 16 and
voLunteers increased from 2 to 5. We thank the parents for trusting us with their
chiLdren
The attendance is diverse, composed of chiLdren from different backgrounds,
different age and maturity and have different interests and expectations. They
range from age 3 to 13. They graduaLLy bond to support and Look out for each
other to finish the planned work on time.
During the past year a new format for Sunday schooL ujas introduced which is
prayer, bibLe reading, worship, coLoring art and joining in the main seruice.

We discuss christian vaLues of loue, fait kindness, peace, respect, obedience,
goodness and LoyaLity through the bibLicaL stories of creatioTr Ruth, Samuel,
Jonah and the parabLes. The learning is reinforced tFirough art and quizzes.
Testimonies from the chiLdren of what God has done in their Lives recognizes the
greatness and goodness of God. The highLight was Christmas season when the
chiLdren Learnt the natiULty story and exchanged Christmas gifts.
During this year an offering coLLection ujere introduced as assign of thanksgiuing.

Improving access to our Sunday School to the community.
Recruitment of Sunday scliooL Leaders and uoLunteers
Introducing new Sunday school actiuities.
EvaLuating the success of ministry.
We WILL do our best and glue God the gLory.

Euents
We had tujo euents in the Latter part of 2023,
The first in September which ujas part of the Open House Weekend across
London. We ujere abLe to showcase out beautifuL Church with its significant
History. Father Antonio kindLy coLLated a Lot of the History onto a portabLe
screen ujhich uisitors couLd uieu) whiLe sitting down. An organ recitaL was aLso
prouided by MichaeL BaLL who kindly gave his own time. An exhibition on the
theme of AngeLs aLso took pLace hosted and compiLed by Francesca and Tim
Wright two members of our congregation.
The second euent was held in Late Nouember our Winter Fayre .consisting of Pre
Christmas Gifts and uarious other staLLs, TomboLa RaffLe Cakes Refreshments.
Over £800 was raised Thank you to aLL who heLped to run stalLs.
ALthough hard work you get to enjoy meeting neuj peopLe and engaging with
them.
We haue three Euents pLanned for the coming months,. a Summer Fete on July
13, Open House Weekend in September, Winter Fayre in Nouember. ALI WILL be
reveaLed in the coming months.

Art Exhbition September 2023: Angels
The exhibition 'AngeLs' featured 31 works by 8 artists. This resuLted from an open
caLL to artists to respond to the them in whateuer way they ujished. The artLStLC
responses, paintings, drawings, prints and scuLptures, ujere reLigious and secuLar,
dark and Light, humorous, serene and tortured. They indicated that aLthough the
Christian doctrine and practice are not as centraL to UK cuLture as they once
were, angeLs continue to resonate in terms of the spirituaL contact and comfort
they glue. Perhaps they also prouide an image of a Less earthbound uersion of
ourselues.
The show was the first staged at ALL Saints since Lockdown and ran across two
weekends. It opened with an opening euening that brought a Tange of LocaL
peopLe from ALI Saints and the ujider community aLongside the artists. It ujas
weLL attended across the two weekends with members of the congregation
taking turns to inuigiLate.
The show coincided on one weekend with the Open House ujeekend, which was
mutuaLLy beneficiaL to both euents. For the Open House there was a highly
engaging sLide show and information boards about ALL saints, historicaL
connections.

Choir
ALL Saint"s Church choir has continued to Lead the musLC Ln Church each Sunday
throughout the Year. We haue supported other sung seruices on weekdays{Ash
Wednesday ALL Saint's Day CandLemassland of course speciaL seruices at
Easter/Aduent/Christmas.
In the Autumn after seueral months of uisiting organists or recorded music uje
weLcomed Luis as our permanent organist.
Special thanks must go to MichaeL BalL who has continued to heLp and support
us, even though he is an organist and choirmaster at a Church in Downham.
MichaeL pLays for our reheaTsaLs once a fortnight as uJeLL as playing music at OUT
fundraising euents.
It wouLd be nice if others couLd join our smaLL group of singers-just a
commitment to attend most Sunday mornings and a rehearsal euery other
Thursday euening and a Loue of singing sacred music. PLease speak to Father
Antonio if you might be interested.
At the present time l am seLecting Hymns for Sunday worship-if anyone has a
speciaL request{perhaps an occasion or a hymn we have not had for a
whiLe)pLease haue a word ujith me after the Sunday seruice.
Canon Joseph PooLe(of Canterbury and Couentry Cathedrals) wrote" "Music is
Prayer, it is the Prayer of a community ujhose members are bound to the loue of
God and the Loue of one another and to the seruice of man."

SociaL Media
2023 has been a great year, we have had an oueraLL increase in the number of
foLLowers of our Facebook (ALL Saints,Upper Norwood) page. The number of
posts and reeLs (minimum of 2 per week) posted in wider community groups has
heLped with this growth.
The Church has recently set up an Instagram account {aLL_saints_un) and hope
this uJilL aLso help in promoting the church to the community and presence in
sociaL media. Going forward the Church can obtain more foLLowers if uje
mention sociaL media in meetings and notices and ensure the ujebsite is updated
on a reguLar basis.

Finance Reuiew
This year the Church Income from Donors has increased compare to Last year.
Father Antonio has settLe in weLL and continue to improue the quality of senjice,
getting members inuoLued. The congregation has been uery generous with
donations and heLp in keeping costs to a manageabLe leueL
The introduction of Spanish Church has also contributed to encouraging the
LocaL community to join our euening senjice. The chiLdren incLuding ALL Saints
Church SchooL are now more invoLued in service which is a great way of
ministering.
Energy cost has increased since uje came out of the f ixed contract in pLace last
year and the gas boiLer unfortunateLy gaue up.
We are expecting energy costs to faLL soon hence decided to enter fixed energy
contract for a shorter term than we normaLLy do so we can benefit from future
price falL
We also had some unauoidabLe expensiue repairs to the buiLding which uje are
onLy deaLing with urgent repairs at the moment so stiLL need your support in
raLSing additional f unds.

## **Independent examiner's report to the trustees of All Saints with St Margaret Upper Norwood**
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of All Saints with St Margaret Upper Norwood (the Trust) set out on pages 3 to 10 for the year ended 31 December 2023.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## 1. **ACCOUNTING POLICIES**
## **Basis of preparing the financial statements**
The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
## **Income**
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
## **Expenditure**
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment but not accrued as expenditure.
## **Tangible fixed assets**
Depreciation is not provided as the assets are shown at a nominal sum.
## **Taxation**
The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.
## **Fund accounting**
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
