Dear Sir or Madam,
The Trustees submitted an updated S106 Application to Dorset Council on 18 August 2024 to apply for this charity to become nominated to deliver, own and operate their proposed Community Hall and Nature Park scheme for the Mampitts Lane s106 Community Land that local residents and their team members designed, an excellent proposal which 720 local residents have already supported with a verified petition to Dorset Council in 2021 when the Mampitts Lane Community Land Trust was a CIC before Transitioning to being a CIO.
Highly controversially, in October 2024 Dorset Council instead nominated Shaftesbury Town Council to receive the s106 funding and to deliver a facility of poor design which has strong opposition from residents.
Since then, Shaftesbury Town Council have been squandering residents’ s106 funds and Council Tax funds on trying to deliver their very poor proposal and have failed to meet the deadlines given by Dorset Council and have been granted even more time to try and secure funding to deliver their ill thought-out and highly unpopular design before reaching the Dorset Council cut-off date in 2026.
Residents’ still strongly support The Mampitts Lane Community Land Trust CIO’s planning approved design for the site featuring the excellent Barry Coupe designed neighbourhood hall design and for this charity to deliver, own and operate their carefully designed facility.
The Mampitts Lane Community Land Trust CIO and the trustees remain ready to deliver our highly popular scheme should Dorset Council nominate our fully costed scheme, if they withdraw their support from Shaftesbury Town Council later in 2026 (as residents hope).
The residents still want the Community Hall and Nature Park that the Mampitts Lane Community Land Trust CIO have proposed to deliver, own and operate and consulted them thoroughly about.
During this Financial Year, the Charity has had no income (or expenditure) as it does not yet have a facility to operate from in order to deliver its Charitable Objects to the local community and generate an income.
We are poised, ready to do this in the near future in order to benefit the residents of Shaftesbury and beyond.
