## **Description of the charity’s trusts**

Constitution

Type of governing document (eg. trust deed, constitution) CHARITABLE INCORPORATED ORGANISATION How the charity is constituted

- (eg. trust, association, company)

Founder invited suitably qualified and experienced people to become a Trustee selection methods Trustee. Researched into background of candidates to help determine (eg. appointed by, elected by) suitaliity of each potential trustee.

## **Additional governance issues (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant, about:

- policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;

- the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;

This is a newly formed charity that was registered with the Charity Commission on 23[rd] November 2022.

It has taken some time to set up the framework, internet access, etc and assemble team members/volunteers so that the charity can effectively carry out the tasks spelt out in our governing document.

In 2023 a prospective sponsor was identified but subsequently failed to commit. This lost us some valuable time, however we are continuing to find a suitable sponsor.

- relationship with any related parties;

- trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.

## **Section C Objectives and activities**

The objects of the CIO are:

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

1. To advance the education and training of the public and in particular, but not exclusively, persons who have a learning disability in radio broadcasting and media skills techniques and to advance the education of the public through radio broadcasts on such topics as the trustees deem fit; and

2. To relieve the needs and preserve and protect the physical and mental health of those suffering long-term or life-limiting illnesses and / or disabilities through the provision of grants to cover the costs of specialist treatment or equipment and such other assistance as the trustees deem appropriate.

These objectives are expressed on our website (bigearradio.com) as:

2

## Big Ear Radio has two key objectives:

1. To provide a service that’s deeply relevant and supportive to listeners with disabilities, their families, carers, and anyone with an interest in disability.

2. To show all listeners that a radio station primarily staffed by presenters with disabilities can entertain, inform, and amuse just like any other.

Big Ear Radio is the radio station name for Equal Ability Radio and was established over 4 years ago by our CEO Trevor Krueger. Big Ear Radio now runs online 24/ 7 and regularly records over 2,000 listeners each month.

There are currently approximately 15 volunteer presenters from various countries including USA, Canada and Germany and the UK, who prerecord their shows which are designed to please a wide range of musical tastes. Our figures record that Big Ear Radio has reached listeners in over 120 countries and many positive reviews are received.

## **Our Mission**

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)**

Our mission is to foster better social integration and challenge the misconception that "disabled" means "less able" to accomplish any task or challenge.

Our broadcasts will feature content that resonates with our listeners, addressing gaps often overlooked by mainstream media.

Big Ear Radio plays a vital role in promoting inclusion and fostering better integration. We make ourselves available as a unifying umbrella for other like-minded charities and NGOs. We are currently working with Bankability, Bushido CIC and The Kings Trust.

We have recently opened an online shop called flutterbyshop.com to retail products of interest to the disabled and inform focusing on comfort, mobility and occupational therapy.

3

We are currently in the process of setting up FEARCE (Friends of Equal Ability Radio committed to equality. In simple terms this seeks to emulate such charities as Rotary International, The Lions etc. This will operate as a members and volunteer organisation committed to fundraising, the identification of potential grant recipients and projects and the ensuring the safe delivery and application of grants awarded.

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

It is intended that both our CEO and Senior Technical Consultant will be retained with a modest remuneration as funds allow. The CEO has designed, delivered and funded the development of Equal Ability Radio fothe last four years without any financial recompense.

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

## Section D Achievements and performance

4

## Section D Achievements and performance

- **Summary of the main** Activities successfully undertaken over the past year include: **achievements of the charity** •

- **during the year** Responding to the requests of two or our autistic listeners (one of whom is also visually impaired) who wished to become radio presenters. We trained them to prepare their programme and record it to a professional standard. They are both now regular presenters and part of the Equal Ability Team

   - We have interviewed and broadcast copious accounts of people living with a wide variety of disabilities, disadvantages and physical abuse with the aim of celebrating those who have come through adversity and gone on to help others in a similar position.

   - Arranged a day-out iceskating for a local resident with cerebral palsy .

   - Many of our broadcasts result from our conversations with those we assist, giving them a voice which enables us to raise awareness to the wider public.

   - We have received sufficient support to enable us to provide our broadcast services and are now focusing on stage 2 to find a majors sponsor and increase both awareness and our ability to support those in need.

5

## **Section E                    Financial review**

We are currently, not in the position of having to take decisions on this **Brief statement of the** matter, however we believe in responding to need as rapidly as we can **charity’s policy on reserves** and could not envisage a position where retaining any reserve would take precedence over support.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

## **Further financial review details (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

Currently our principal source of funding is public donations and the support of the founders and volunteers.

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

## **Section F Other optional information**

## **Section G                    Declaration**

**The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.**
