The Ilkley Shed Registered UK Charity No 1201121
Trustees’ Annual Report
23 November 2022 – 31 March 2024
The Ilkley Shed evolved from an informal working group in the West Yorkshire town of Ilkley before becoming a registered Charity on 22 November 2022. When the business hosting the group closed with the COVID 19 pandemic, we lost our workshop and were unable to conduct our planned activities. Being semi-dormant since then, we have focused on finding new premises in which we can use our stock of tools and machinery and thus recruit members again.
In the reporting period the charity had an income of £_100, which is believed to be below the audit threshold.
This report aims to provide basic detail of the range of activities which will be undertaken to further the societal aims of the charity for the public benefit, anticipated recruitment and planned activities.
Aim and purposes
The aim of The Ilkley Shed for the public benefit is the preservation and protection of good health among people aged 18 years and older, living in Ilkley and the surrounding area, including those who are retired, unemployed or have health problems, through the provision of facilities for hobbies recreation or other leisure time occupations including practical interests, skills sharing and helping with community based projects.
Achievements and Performance
During the reporting period we have had to freeze recruitment of members due to the lack of premises, focusing instead on the search for new premises where our stock of tools and equipment can be used to provide the basis of our charitable function. Scarcity of available property and high local prices have meant that only at the end of 2024 have we identified a strong possibility in which to re-start activities.
The Trustees
Three members of The Ilkley Shed constitute the charity’s Trustees. Since losing our previous workshop premises at the beginning of “lockdown” during the COVID 19 pandemic, they have focused their efforts on finding and negotiating new premises.
In the interim, the Trustees have also provided a privately owned workshop to make items for sale to generate funds as well as privately rented storage space for some items donated to the charity and some which are expected to be loaned.
Premises of The Ilkley Shed
Since losing our original workshop facility in 2020, the scarcity and high cost of suitable alternative premises in the Ilkley area has been problematic. The Trustees have sought agreements and support for a wide variety of options for premises in the Ilkley area, but only began to see a realistic chance of gaining access to a suitable facility at the end of 2024. This relies on the continued cooperation and support of the Parish Church in nearby Addingham, West Yorkshire, which owns the building. Ultimate success also depends upon gaining both planning permission and further grant funding to update and convert the premises and render it suitable for the charity’s planned activities.
Financial Review
We opened our bank account on 06 November 2023, with two initial contributions of £ 150 each from two Trustees, totalling £ 300 on 10 November 2023.
