|Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document|Para 1.17|The purpose of the shed is for the public
benefit of all, the preservation and protection
of good health and well-being primarily
among men aged 18 years and older living in
Bingley and the surrounding area, including
those who are employed, retired,
unemployed or have health problems,
through the provision of facilities for hobbies,
recreation or other leisure time activities,
including practical interests, skills sharing,
the learning of new skills, and helping with
community-based projects.
The shed has 15 registered members, one of
whom is a lady. It also provides a place where
new friendships can be formed as
workmates and/or friends retreat due to
health issues, or when retirement beckons or
is reached.
As a receiving charity, one of the pillars is
giving back to the community through
community projects and empathy, such as
Remembrance Day.
The shed has members with various degrees
of knowledge, skill, ability, and
understanding. |||help other members who are interested and
willing to learn and benefit from guidance.
The shed's only activity is woodworking. This
will remain so until we can expand into other
available spaces. There has been no
demand for the shed to run any other
activities, though, through membership
surveys, there is a desire for different
activities to occur based on members' skills
and interests.|

|---|---|---|
|Statement
explaining the
policy for holding
reserves and
stating why they
are held.|Para 1.22|There is no policy on how much surplus/reserve must be
carried over yearly. Carrying a small surplus into the
following year's accounts is considered good financial
management, ensuring the shed can continue to operate
and benefit its members.
The amount carried over may differ from year to year. Any
surplus carryover is earmarked for purchasing new
equipment or spare parts to fix existing equipment.|
|Amount of reserves
held|Para 1.22|A surplus of 2.8k will be carried over to the following year's
accounts to help with the shed’s continued subsistence. This
forms the initial reserve for the next financial year for the
shed.|

## **Additional information (optional)** You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

|The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)|Para 1.47|This year, the Bingley Men’s Shed's funding
has primarily come from the delivery of
community work projects. Smaller amounts
of money were received as grants and
donations, as well as from shed membership
and session fees.|
|---|---|---|
|Investment policy and
objectives, including any
social investment policy
adopted|Para 1.46||
|A description of the principal
risks facing the charity|Para 1.46|**Break-ins**
Last year, the shed premises were
constantly under attack from those keen to
break into the shed and help themselves to
our battery-operated tools. Significant work
was performed to secure the premises,
ensuring future break attempts would not be
an easy task.
This year, there was only one such incident,
which occurred to an adjacent storage
building used for storing materials and
partially finished projects. The thieves
successfully gained access but left
disappointed, having found nothing of value,
but leaving the shed members to resecure
the premises.
**Membership**
The shed's membership is static, with very
few joining enquiries. This means that the
shed's membership is not increasing, and
there is no new blood or ideas. This may be
due to the shed's limited size, which restricts
the number of people who can come to the
shed during a session.
**Trustees**
With no new blood joining the ranks of the
Bingley shed, it presents challenges in
finding members willing to take on specific
Trustee roles, such as Chairman and
Treasurer, etc. This will come to a head at|

the next AGM, when current role-holding members will step down after holding on to their roles for the last three years. **Tenure of lease and Shed premises expansion** This is an ongoing saga that remains unresolved. Not having a lease tenure prohibits the shed from applying for larger grants to help expand to larger premises or purchase larger equipment. As Bradford/Bingley council still has not decided on the plans for the old Bingley council and pool premises, this impacts the shed’s future in its current location, which is to expand to available premises as initially promised. |---|---|---|
|Type of governing document
(trust deed, royal charter)|Para 1.25|The charity is governed by a constitution
(Association type)that outlines the
charity's governing principles.|
|How is the charity
constituted?
(e.g unincorporated
association, CIO)|Para 1.25|The Bingley and Rural Men’s Shed (BRMS)
is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation
(CIO) based entity. It was established in
November 2022 and is managed by elected
trustees.|
|Trustee selection methods
including details of any
constitutional provisions e.g.
election to post or name of
any person or body entitled
to appoint one or more
trustees|Para 1.25|Its members will elect all future trustees at
the organisation's AGM as per the
constitution. At re-election time, all current
elected trustees are obligated to resign and
seek re-election if they would like to continue
in that capacity for another year. Trustees
are also sourced through member
nominations, and a ballot is taken if there is
more than one nominee for a role.
The trustees assume the roles of chairman,
secretary, and treasurer, or serve as trustees
with no specific role (e.g., committee
member).
Other roles available are membership, DPO
and Safety Officer. These roles require very
little week-to-week attention and are adjunct
tasks to the treasurer’s role. Trustee
meetings are held regularly, typically every
month.|
