The Chair presides over meetings and 8¢ts as the publlc face of the ￿anIsatIOn at events and public meetlngs.
The treasurer keep5 a(xounts of monies receiv8d from grant funding, fundraising and donations.
The secretary prepares agenda for meetings and minutes them and also assists 0￿￿TS with administration in tholr

in D8cernber 2023. Our p8rformanc8s have be8n by lar the most popular of our aclivilies. Other activities have
includgd eating together every week al the cafe on the premises where we meet. going lo Cheslertleld lo see The
Rock Choir, and a fundr81ser In Touey where wè cdlaborated with The Rock Choir.
The Women'$ Group
Obiects of the group.. Th888 are tha 88ma as the 8bove Tuesday Group. bul w￿h the added 818ment of creafjng a
safe Space for women who might otherwise not attend a mixgd group for cultural or religious reasons, and also
have safe space to meal othér woman.
Activi118s of the group..
The Side-By-Side Women's Group began in January 2023. They met on Fridays from 12..OOhrs lo 14'.OOhrs in The
SBncluary building which is a community hub In the centre of Sheffidd that serves and supports people seeking
sanctuary and refvgees. Until recenuy there was a regular attendance of al)out 25 with a further 10 or so who
attend from ￿me lo tSme. Many of the members of The Women'8 Group have very Ilmiled proficiency in th8 English
language, so we focu5 on aclivilies involving leaming English through drama games, speaking, and listening
exercises and singing. We also do meditation and wellbeing exercis8s.
We have been exploring the Seasons as we go through the yaar, thus providing a consistènt and ongoing Iheme,
The group Is now really getting lo know one another better. and Johanna our facllftator reports IhaL "this has been
a joy lo see."

Summary of the maln activities undertaken for the public beneflt
Sid8 By Sid8 is a us8r-led community theatre group for adult asylum seekers, refugges, and BritishlEuropean
rnembers of the Sheffield communty atKJve the age of 18 years. Side By Side offers Iwo-hour weekly drama and
music sesS￿n$. We also ty have one promotional patylevent per year lo share our work with the community
of Shaff￿ld.
Al Slde By Sld8. we seek to use drama and music as a toc4 to increase Gommunlty cohesion and strengthen bonds
befv4een different sections of the community. Through our work la￿1 playll we aim to redu￿ social Isolation and
promote integration. W8 usa dr8ma and music as the springboard for a range of games and activities and devising
pro¢e$se$ ¢ulminaling in publlc performances and creative promotional events. We use Theatre lo raise awareness
about currgnt issues. specifically those issues direcuy affecting our members. by 8xploring is$ues in workshops and
devising one play a year which we show to publlc 8udlences. We also perform&J al local schools. During our
weekly sessions. our members have thg opportunity to have direGt Gontscl and experien￿ with peo￿8 they may not
usually meet in their day-lo-day Ilfe.

members have become fim fdendg and supported $a¢h olhor through difflcult dmes such as vlsillng Side by Side
members in detenUonl. Our sessions give a safa r8gular m801ing space where they can get to know new people
and make frlends in a safe and slruclured environment. as w81185 build on skills such as English. communication
and confldence bullding. There is also fwus on playfulness, well.being, and creatlvity. The $8s8ion8 are carefully
structured to be gende and inclusNe bgginning with a shared m9al and conversa￿0￿. creating space for members lo
rnake connectlons In a relaxed environment and praclise conversational Engllsh. We then play games and do
devising exercises. In this way we oenerate new malarial for our next play.
Our facllilalors encourage physical and experimental theatre. movement, and dance in order lo indude members
whh Ilmited knowledge of English and to ov8rcome18nguage barrkgrs as well as lo ch811enge traditional thèatre
fomis and encourage cre8tlve Ihlnklng. Chjr plays h8v8 so far explored current Sssues of discrimlnalion and
dlverslty. so our audiences have also had the opportunity lo leam a great deal from seelng our work.

Our main achievements have been securlng fv40 year8 of fundlng from Th8 Reaching Communitios Lottèry Fund.
We dld ￿rformanCeS 81 The MSgratlon Matters Fesllval. Th8 Perfomilng Together Too, (In collaborats'on with
Sheffield Theatres) al The Crucible Theatre, perfonming at The Sheffield Conversation Club AGM.
We also collaborated with Th8 Rock Choir in fundraising activities in Totiey and Chgslerfi81d.
We also started The Women's Group which has a weekly regular attendance of 30 which we view as a major
$ueces$. The Women's group 1$ run on Friday aftemoons ￿ hyo hours and is oft¢n oversubscribed due lo its
popularity.
Flnanclal Revlew
Totsl rec*ipts Increased in the year under review, 30 September 2023, to £23.808.00 from £21,043.00 in the
previous year. Side By side Drama Group Sheffield received funding during the year from The South Yorkshire
Communrty Fund, The Brelms Trust, The Sheff¢eld Town Trust and The National Lottery Communlty Fund.
Facilitslor and travel costs went up in 2023 to £7,910.00 and £8,760.00 from £4,625.00 and £2,520.00 respectively
in 2022.Thg increase in the above costs were C￿as1oned by the fact that Side By Siile is now running two
workshops a week. The main workshop Is on a Tuesday and the second one is a Women's Group run every Friday.
Side By Side Drama Group Sheffield is now a registered Charitable Incorporated organisat￿n the process of which
was done and completed in the year under review.

We do not nomally have any financial obligations arKI our only essential need is to pay the rent for our Tuesday
8nd Friday workshops. Our reseNe policy is that we should have enough funds to enable us lo pay our rent tr
next 6 months. which is undar £1500 per 8nnum. This would normally b8 twnd in a dedicated Restricted Fund
lopped up by the Unr8slricted Funds if necessary.
