About Us
Spays 4 Strays is a non-profit organisation, formed by 4 former rescue friends and colleagues who decided they wanted to do more to address the unwanted stray populations abroad. We could all see very plainly, was that no matter how many were saved, how many were successfully adopted in the UK or other countries, there were always plenty more waiting their turn. It's like a bottomless pit, and having adopted 10 dogs between us and fostered almost 20 more, we felt we hadn't really made a long term difference at all.
We firmly believe that to really help, there needs to be a two-pronged approach. Firstly, rescuing, for the poor animals who are already living a life filled with neglect, suffering and often abuse. There are many rescues already in existence doing this vital work. Secondly, as any reputable rescue will tell you, neuter campaigns are the ONLY way to make a long term difference. Ensuring that dogs and cats can't continue to breed litters 2-3 times a year, is the absolute best way to control their numbers. We felt that there are so many rescues, but few organisations who only focus on spaying. So we wanted to try to readdress the imbalance. And so in December 2021, Spays 4 Strays came into being. We have been very fortunate to have some great rescue friends, and we are delighted to collaborate with as many rescues as possible to increase our reach and find trusted contacts in multiple areas. Together, we can do great things and make a real impact, so that hopefully one day, there'll be no animals waiting for a space in a rescue shelter.

Achievements & Performance
2023 has been a difficult year with a cost of living crisis impacting on revenue and unrest in Ukraine having an impact on our partners, particularly those in Romania. We have continued to work with partners across eastern Europe to identify areas where we can make a difference through spaying and have expanded operations to Bosnia and Serbia as well as continuing to operate in Romania.
Annual Spays
48 cats & dogs spayed
This year we have carried out 14 spay days with a total of 48 animals spayed. Much of our spay activity this year has been more challenging and has resulted in fewer animals being spayed at one time due to volunteer and vet availability and a focus on larger groups of stray dogs such as those living at the refuse dump at Doboj and at the cemetery at Bor, who have to be caught a few at a time, spayed and kept in the care of volunteers for recovery before being released.

Population growth statistics show that one unspayed female dog having two litters of four to six puppies per year, results in a possible 78,000 puppies over seven years. This number is considerably higher for unspayed male dogs and for cats, where three litters of four to six kittens per year could be as many as 370,000 kittens over seven years. For prudency we use ,the figure of 78,000 for all animals spayed to estimate impact.
Based on population growth statistics, over 3.7 million potential births avoided over the next 7 years

We are looking to further explore other avenues of income generation and sponsorship in 2024 to supplement the direct donations which we receive.
