## **10[th] Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025** ## **Our Vision** Our Vision is that children and young people experience ‘life to the full’ through coming to know Jesus for themselves (John 10:10). All that we do as a group is focused on this, having faith in young people, providing them with opportunities to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian Faith. We are based at Winchmore Hill Baptist Church in North London and we are very grateful for the support that the Church gives by free use of the premises and facilities; and assistance from the congregation. ## **Membership** The Charity has nearly 50 children and young people engaging in weekly activities across all age groups. The **Anchors** group meets on a Tuesday evening and during the year there were 7 boys and girls in Anchors. The remainder of the **Girls Groups** (Juniors and Company) also meet on Tuesday evening and there were 10 girls in this age group. The boys **Juniors** group meets on Thursday evening and during the year there were 8 boys in Juniors. There were 24 boys in the **Company** and **Seniors** groups, which also meets on a Thursday evening. All groups run a programme including games, crafts, various other interests and a devotional time. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 1 ## **Safeguarding** Managing risk and safeguarding are a high priority in the Charity and is taken very seriously. The Boys’ Brigade ‘Safeguarding Policy Statement’ and ‘Safeguarding Policy with Procedures’ have been adopted and are followed. **Assessing Risk:** Leaders are required to carry out risk assessments for all activities being undertaken. This includes: - Identifying & locating hazards - Considering who might be harmed and how - Identifying how risks are eliminated or controlled - Recording & communicating risks & control measures to everyone - Reviewing & updating as necessary In addition there is a risk assessment of the meeting space or venue being used. All leaders have access to the latest risk assessments and understand the risks/hazards identified and the control measures in place. **Leaders and Recruitment:** The Boys’ Brigade has policies and procedures in place for leaders to promote the welfare of children and young people and protect them from harm. These cover: - A ‘Safer Recruitment’ process. - Training and development of leaders (including mandatory Youth Leader Training). - A leaders’ code of conduct. - Guidance for good practice. - Guidance for challenging poor practice. - Safeguarding policies and procedures. - Ways to get advice and support. ## **Weekly Programme** Weekly programmes continue to provide a wide range of attractive and energetic activities. During the winter and spring terms these are predominantly indoors and involve games, crafts and cookery. Some highlights have been getting involved in UK Parliament Week (Juniors), working with a Chocolate theme (Anchors), taking on world record challenges (Juniors/Company/Seniors), making onion bhaji’s (Company/Seniors), playing electronic darts on our new board (Juniors/Company), and running ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Here’ with various challenges for the children & young people to win stars and be crowned Kings/Queens of the Jungle 2025. In the summer months we have ventured outdoors with games and sports including foot golf, kayaking, paddleboarding, karting, adventure golf, and trips to the park. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 2 Towards the end of June some visitors joined us for the Thursday night Juniors meeting. A film crew from Eight Engines, a filming company based in Salford spent time capturing everything we got up to - including making pizzas and cooking them in an outdoor pizza oven, building Bird Boxes, playing games and a whole lot more. A great night, one of the hottest days of the year, and we are looking forward to seeing the footage in future BB Headquarters promotional and support videos. Our weekly programmes and special events include opportunities for us to share the good news and delve into the Bible, engaging with children and young people who otherwise wouldn’t come across the doorstep of the Church. We have continued to do this throughout the last 12 months, helping them to explore the Bible and providing them with opportunities to have a personal encounter with Jesus. We have faith that through their journey with us as leaders, through the relationships we build and the programme we offer, that we may be able to plant a seed that will one day bear fruit (Mark 4). We are thankful for the prayers and support from the wider Church for all that goes on week by week. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 3 ## **Working with the Church** As well as our weeknight meetings being held on the Church’s site, we engage regularly with the congregation and hold some of our activities in the worship area of the Church itself. In February, our children & young people along with a number of parents and family members joined the wider congregation for a Parade Service. The service was led by Chris Norman and was themed around the Parable of The Prodigal Son. It was a blessed time together as a Church. On Easter Sunday we celebrated by presenting all the ladies in the congregation with individually decorated plants along with a cross and Easter message. At our July Parade Service we explored the Miracle of Jesus Feeding the 5000 and presented our Annual Awards recognising the achievements of all the children and young people from over the last 12 months. This was a great time together which saw parents and the wider church congregation able to see all that we had been up to during the session. Our Annual Enrolment Celebration took place in the middle of October, and this saw over 25 children and young people gather with a good number of parents. During the service we learned that when our hearts are like good soil — ready to listen and grow — God can do amazing things in us. It was a special time as always when we come together to celebrate and rededicate ourselves, and the partnership with the Church for the year ahead. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 4 On Remembrance Sunday we led the morning service at church, and as part of this everyone lit candles and placed them in the shape of a heart to remind us of Jesus' command "Love each other as I have loved you". This was something that we also thought about in our weekly meetings in the week leading on from this. We also joined other groups from across Enfield in the afternoon at a Civic Service at the War Memorial in Enfield Town. ## **Another year of Special Events** In addition to regular weekly meetings, members of the groups have the opportunity to take part in many special events throughout the year. Here are some highlights for 2025. **January:** We were very proud to see two members our Seniors age group presented with **Jack Petchey Achievement Awards** at an Awards ceremony at City Hall in London. Josh and Jamie were recognised for their long terms of service (8 and 10 years respectively) in the Company and received their awards from Deputy Lieutenant for Greater London, Craig Haslam and CEO of The Boys' Brigade, Jonathan Eales. **February:** 13 Company/Senior members joined members from across Enfield on a **Weekend Away** at Frith Grange Activity Centre in Barnet. A great weekend was had by all, with a range of activities including, swimming, outdoor laser combat, climbing, bonfire, devotions, quiz and Top Golf. Well done to our Junior and Company Teams that took part in the Enfield Battalion **Swimming Gala** . Our Juniors achieved 2nd place with several members winning their races, and our Company team also came 2nd in the year 7/8 age group. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 5 **March:** Our Anchor members had a great time at the BB London **Superhero Fun Day** , taking on the Superhero Training Academy, Balloon Modelling and getting creative with some amazing crafts. We also got to see some magic and hear an amazing gospel message from ‘Magical Mayhem’. Our Leaders were able to attend BB Enfield Battalion **Leaders Social and Awards** **evening** . During the evening 58 leaders from across Enfield including 6 from our own group were recognised for their many years volunteering. These were presented by The Mayor of the London Borough of Enfield. **May:** On **VE Day** our young people and leaders had an amazing time in London representing the Boys’ Brigade nationally, taking up position opposite Buckingham Palace to watch the Parade and Flypast. One of our young people, Josh, together with leaders Kevin & Jackie Norman, also had the opportunity to join HM The King and other members of Royal Family, Government Ministers and Veterans in The Royal Box. This was followed by attendance at the VE Day 80 concert on Horse Guards Parade. Shortly afterwards we were proud to have two of our young people and a leader attend the **Service of Thanksgiving** to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day at Westminster Abbey. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 6 Our Anchors and Juniors had a great day at **Chessington World of Adventure** _._ Our Juniors had a great time at the **London District Fun Day** , taking part in an It's a Knockout Challenge as well as other activities. Well done to our team, who took 1st place (out of 19 teams). It was also the month for the annual **Waltham Walk** where we had 6 teams (23 members) taking part. All completed the 2-day event with creditable results. Billy and Sam, two of our leaders who have been members of the Company for 10+ years had the amazing opportunity to attend a **Buckingham Palace Garden Party** , hosted by The Prince & Princess of Wales and The Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh. They joined a group of 12 young people and young leaders from across the Boys’ Brigade, carrying out a range of duties welcoming and helping the thousands of guests. **June:** 14 of our Juniors joined in the Enfield Battalion Weekend Away at Gilwell Park Activity Centre in Chingford, which offered a range of activities onsite including zip wires, climbing, raft building and more. Our Anchors and Juniors took part in the Enfield Battalion **Hare & Hounds** race with Anchors coming 1[st] and Juniors 5[th] in the event. The Company were winners of the Best New Account category in the 2025 Boys’ Brigade **Social Media Awards** . We received 2,350 public votes and we are thankful for all the local and national support we received. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 7 **July:** Well done to all our Anchors, Juniors and Company members for taking part in the Enfield Battalion **Athletics & Sports Day** at Lea Valley Athletics Stadium. We won a number of individual and relay races across all ages groups. A great day out at the end of the summer session. **September:** Taking place in the Hertfordshire countryside our Seniors completed their **Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Expedition** . A two-day walk of 21 miles with an overnight stop at Phasels Wood Activity Centre. Our Anchors & GA Juniors visited **Southgate Fire Station** to learn about different tools, try on some of the safety equipment, and operate a fire hose. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 8 **October:** 20+ young people and leaders watched England v Wales in an International Friendly at **Wembley Stadium.** ## **November:** All ages groups enjoyed our **Fireworks & Bonfire Party** . Well done to our Company team that took part in BB UK **National 5-a-Side Football** in Reading. They played well and came 3rd Place overall. 20+ young people and leaders had a great afternoon taking part in the **Enfield Christmas Parade of Lights** , joining with other young people and leaders from the Enfield Boys’ Brigade groups. **December:** Our annual **Christmas Fayre** , with all money raised going towards our work with children and young people. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 9 ## **Annual Camp** In August we ran our annual summer camp in Norfolk, with 16 boys and girls from our Company along with some young people from 3[rd] Enfield and 4[th] Barnet Boys’ Brigade companies. It was our largest Summer Camp for years, enjoying a wide range of activities including Surfing, High Ropes Course, Swimming, Canoeing on the Norfolk Broads, a day at Pleasurewood Hills theme park and a many activities on the camp site. During the week our devotions were themed around how God Journeys with us, with a number of leaders involved in leading these. This year too marked the end of an era for setting up a static campsite each summer, not only for our own use, but to help and allow other Boys’ Brigade groups without camping equipment to enjoy a canvas camp. We have been doing this since 1984, when a camp was erected on the north Wales coast. In 1987 we moved to Northrepps, near Overstand in Norfolk, and then in the following year to Beeston Regis. Over 40 years, a venture that started as a fundraiser to replace worn out camp equipment with small camps of up to 30 people, had evolved to a site in 2025 which had 12+ large ridge tents, a large marquee and cookhouse, toilets, showers and a whole lot more, offering camps for up to 100 people. With an average of 4 weeks of camping every year (with the exception of a few years, due to foot & mouth and COVID) many BB Companies and thousands of young people have had the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic seaside campsite. Deciding to end this was a very difficult decision, but with rising costs and the ever-increasing work to set up and manage the site, we came to the conclusion that it was time to end this season in our work. We will hopefully be able to return to Norfolk for our own Summer Camp at some point in the future. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 10 ## **Community Engagement** We have been pleased once again to support Help For Hunger by putting together Hampers for two families at Christmas time. Our young people and their families donated food and other items and members of our staff team helped with the local sorting and distribution of 100s of hampers to schools across north London using our minibus. Also our annual Christmas Trailer Collection took place in the lead up to Christmas and thanks to the support of leaders, young people and parents we raised over £3,000. This was split between Company Funds and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. ## **Future Plans** We will continue to share the good news of the Bible, provide exciting and challenging activities for children and young people and be a presence and support for the local community. Wider afield there are plans for 8 seniors and 2 leaders to travel to Mexico in July 2026 to help build a home for a family living in poverty. This is part of a project of mission agency Amor Europe, who are well experienced in organising overseas service projects for young people. 10th Enfield Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Association Annual Report 2025 11 ## **Finance** The accounts for the year ended 31[st] December 2025 show a General Account income of just under £50,000 against expenditure of nearly £44,000. The Charity ended the year with funds of just over £18,000. Following the purchase of a new minibus in 2022, there was an outstanding loan at the end of the year of £945, which will be fully repaid by the end of 2026. The Charity funds its activities through subscriptions from members (which are for membership only) and a number of fundraising events during the year. In 2025 these once again included a quiz night, the Christmas Fayre, and the Christmas street collection (which was agreed with the local authority, and as reported above, was a joint fundraising effort for the Charity and for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice). Income is additionally received from those groups who use the camping equipment during the summer months. ## **Structure, Governance and Management** The method of appointment of the Trustees is set out in the Charity’s Constitution. The Trustees had one formal meeting during the year, but were in regular contact over operational matters. The Trustees believe they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit prescribed by the Charities Commission in exercising their powers and duties. ## **Administrative Information** The Charity is registered with the Charities Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number 1201072; Constitution dated 15[th] November 2022).
