## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES**

## **FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025**

## **Objectives and activities**

The objects of the CIO are to advance science and education through the provision of equitable access to genomics technology and related training for the public benefit (and particularly amongst scientists) in all aspects of that subject.

GetGenome provides support for scientists by providing training in the field of genomics and open science publishing. GetGenome’s empowerment of researchers strengthens local research capabilities and enables advancements in scientific knowledge that contribute to the global public good. GetGenome supports research across a variety of life science fields and has built valuable networks to support researchers’ learning and collaboration potential.

## **Public benefit**

The trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit. They confirm that in planning and carrying out the charity’s activities they have had regard to this guidance.

## **Achievements and performance**

During the reporting period GetGenome conducted three campaigns; GGPakistan2023, GGLatAm2024 and GGMENA2024. Each campaign is within our Call For Projects programme to support researchers via competitive, regionally defined open calls. Our CFP campaign, GGPakistan2023 was supported by the Halpin Trust. We continued our work supporting researchers and other stakeholders via the DEWAS project tracking destructive wheat blast lineages across areas of Asia, Africa and South America. Additionally, we have continued GGPlasmidSeq, supporting researchers by providing plasmid sequencing without cost. We engaged in various ancillary training events to support primarily early-career researchers. We initiated our seminar series, hosting several virtual seminars within the reporting period.

## **Plans for future periods**

It is hoped that over time, income will be maintained and further grants will be able to be made.
