The trustees present their report and financial statement for the year ended 31 May 2024
Hesketh Lane Church (HLC) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation was registered with the Charity Commission on the 15 November 2022.
Objectives and activities
The advancement of the Christian Faith in such a way as the Charity Trustees may from time to time decide.
HLC principal actives are:
The Church meets each Sunday for worship, teaching and ministry. We welcome all people to come to our services whether they are Christian or have little or no faith.
Other activities:
Weekly prayer meetings, Bible study, and meetings to support other charitable mission organisations.
HLC supports a number of Christian charities with financial assistance from the church’s own donated income: Open Doors, SASRA, Bible Society and International Aid.
HLC participates in any local Churches Together events in the community, and attends local clergy meetings.
HLC Trustees meet regularly to review the effective management of the Church, minutes are recorded at all trustee meetings and are accountable as to the actions taken.
To facilitate this work, it is important that we maintain the fabric of the building. HLC does not own the Church building. The Church building is on a lease agreement with the trustees of GBA Services Ltd Directors Pension Fund
HLC is at present going through the process of being affiliated to the Free Methodist Church of the UK.
Structure, governance and management
HLC is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by the Constitution dated 15 November 2022.
The Trustees who served during the year and up to date of the financial statement are:
Richard Bullock, Nadine Gautrey
Janet West, and Graham Rigby
The Church is managed by the above Trustee Team on a completely voluntary basis. The Church does not employ any persons.
The Trustees retain responsibility for legal matters pertaining to the Charity.
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees Report and the Financial statement with applicable Law and General Accepted Accounting Practice.
The Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair indication of the state of affairs of the charity and the income resource and application of resource of that charity year.
In preparing these financial statements the trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;

observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP (Statement of Recommended Practise);

make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;

state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping sufficient records, which can be examined at any time, that disclose with reasonable accuracy the financial position compliant with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Report) Regulation 2008.
They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
HLC records all offering/gifts given through the Gift Aid scheme, compliant with HMRC requirements.

HESKETH LANE CHURCH – CHARITY No 1201025 NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL REPORT
Being a Charitable Incorporated organisation, Hesketh Lane Church prepares Annual Accounts on a Receipts and Payments basis, being below applicable thresholds for Accrual Accounts.
As such, after scrutiny of the Accounts, the Trustees consider them to be a true and fair view of the financial activity of the Charity for the period ending 31/05/2024.
As the Church does not own any property and has no paid employees, there are no Assets or Liabilities to report at the year end. Likewise, Hesketh Lane Church has not entered into any Legal Guarantee, nor has any Debt been secured by a Legal Charge.
Extraordinary Items included in the Accounts:
The income for the year includes a one-off refund for a previous overcharge by Water Plus of £1,431 and a reimbursement by the local Methodist Circuit for prior expenditure incurred on their behalf, totalling £6,650.
Also, the expenditure includes an amount of £1,680 for non-recurring legal fees.
